First for Devon girls’ rugby team

A team from Tiverton achieved great success at their first attempt playing in the world’s largest school rugby tournament. But, while the Blundell’s boys’ teams are a regular feature at Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens, it was the girls’ team that were runners-up - the first time that a girls’ team from the school has entered the competition. Many of the girls only took up the sport this term so the team have gone from beginners to prize winners in less than ten weeks.

At around 2:30pm on Friday the 10th of February, the suspect knocked on the door of an elderly woman who was in her home at Elmore Way in Tiverton.

The suspect claimed that she was in the area visiting a neighbour who wasn’t in, and convinced the victim to let her into her home to allow her to warm-up.

Whilst the victim was making the suspect a cup of tea, £100 pounds was taken from her purse.

The Environment Agency wants views from residents of two Devon towns on proposed flood defences.

Drop-in sessions have been arranged for people in Bampton and Tiverton to see plans to reduce flood risk in their respective towns.

Remedial work needed on Tiverton traffic calming

Essential remedial work will have to be carried out to traffic calming on Blundell’s Road in Tiverton, starting from this Saturday (21 January).

Devon County Council has confirmed that it cannot accept the structures on the public highway as the profile and shape of ten of the traffic calming ramps have not met specifications.

SIAC Construction Ltd will carry out the repair work at its own expense. It will undertake the work over the next three Saturdays between 8am and 5pm. Stop/go boards will be used while work is ongoing.
