Teenager assaulted in Tiverton

Police have launched an investigation after a teenager was assaulted on the Grand Western Canal tow path in Tiverton on Friday 20 May.

The incident took place on the canal tow path between Tidcombe Bridge and the main canal basin between 7.10pm and 7.20pm.

The victim, a 17-year-old local boy, received minor injuries after a demand was made for him to hand over his belongings.

No items were taken by the suspect who is described as being a white male, 5ft 10ins in height and of average build. He was wearing a dark hooded top.

Livestock evacuated during Devon barn fire

One fire appliance from Witheridge, two from Tiverton and the Water Bowser from Exeter were sent to a report of a barn on fire at Pennymoor, Tiverton.

On arrival crews confirmed that the barn, which was being used as a workshop, was well alight. Livestock from an adjacent building were evacuated. The workshop also contained gas cylinders believed to be acetylene, argon and butane.

To deal with the incident crews are using compressed air foam monitors, two main jets and a thermal image camera.

House builder exceeds target for charity and pledges more support

Tiverton Housebuilder Devonshire Homes handed over a cheque to Devon charity Hospiscare this week marking a year of fundraising that saw the company exceed its target amount by £2,316.00.

Spring clean for Tiverton water main

Tiverton's trunk main is to get a spring clean - using ice crystals.

South West Water will be carrying out planned maintenance on the water network from 11-14 April.

Over time very low levels of iron and manganese present in all water supplies build up on the internal surfaces of water mains. If these are disturbed due to a sudden change in flow or pressure (caused by a burst main, for example) customers may notice their water appears discoloured.

To avoid this inconvenience, South West Water periodically removes any build-up in a controlled and planned way....

Police appeal after man assaulted in Tiverton

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Tiverton on Saturday the 26th March.

At around 5.50pm, a man was seriously assaulted outside the Seven Stars Public House on Bridge Street.

The victim, a man in his 50’s suffered a cut about his eye and bruising during the altercation and had to attend hospital for treatment.

A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with this incident and has since been released on police bail until the 11th of May pending further enquires.

A396 near Cove to open under traffic control

Early morning commuters will be able to use the A396, north of Cove, Tiverton, every day from the end of this week until the completion of road works in May.

The round-the-clock closure of the A396 to enable a new safety barrier to be built, is scheduled to come to an end on Thursday evening, March 24th.

From then until the completion of the works, scheduled for May 14th, 2016, the A396 will be open to traffic under two-way traffic lights, either all day or during the rush hour and evening periods.
