Trust celebrates Yaki Day

The charity that runs Paignton Zoo is marking the special day of a special species.

The Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust, the charity that runs Paignton Zoo, Living Coasts and Newquay Zoo, is celebrating International Macaque Day on Friday 16th March. Sulawesi crested black macaques (Macaca nigra) can be seen at both Paignton Zoo and Newquay Zoo. The charity supports a successful project in Indonesia called Selamatkan Yaki, which works with the species in the wild. March is over-60s month at two top Devon zoos. The charity attractions are holding special days for older people. At Living Coasts, Torquay’s coastal zoo, the day of the week to make a note of is Wednesday. At Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, the special day is Thursday. Paignton Zoo and Living Coasts are both part of the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust, the charity which also runs Newquay Zoo in Cornwall. Devon and Cornwall Police are growing increasingly concerned for the welfare of a 33 year old male from Brixham.

Lee Cooper was last seen in Brixham at 6pm on 29th December 2017 by his brother.

He is described as being 5 foot 11 inches tall, of chubby build, with short black hair, clean shaven face and scar in one eyebrow, wearing a black beanie hat with peak, dark green camouflage jacket with hood, dark blue jeans and black trainers with blue laces.

Anybody with information as to Lee’s whereabouts is urged to call 101 quoting log reference 733 29/12/17.

Laundered cash will be used to compensate rogue trader victims

One of a pair of convicted rogue builders has been ordered to pay back more than £11,000 of his illegal earnings.

John Carroll, 26, of Cricklade, who is serving 38-months in prison for fraud, and Swansea’s John Rice, 21, who has served a 12 week sentence for money laundering had conned a string of victims in South West England and Wales. At a hearing Judge Graham Cottle ruled that Rice had earned £28,950 by laundering Carroll’s illegal proceeds and ordered him to repay what remained in his possession, £11,650, which will go to his victims.

Stagecoach announces changes to Torbay bus network

Stagecoach South West has announced that, from 29 October 2017, it will be making a number of changes to its Torbay bus services, improving reliability and connectivity over a core part of its network.

The Hop12 timetable will remain largely unchanged, with some alterations to early morning journeys in order to improve reliability.

On the 13, there will be minor changes to morning and afternoon peak journeys to improve connections for commuters. On school days, the 0820 arrival into Newton Abbot will extend to Newton Abbot College. There will be a new journey at 1712 from...

Quality inspectors rate Devon care homes and GP practices higher than the national average

Nearly a quarter of Devon GP practices are outstanding according to quality inspectors, compared to just 4 percent of practices in England. And the percentage of Devon’s care homes rated outstanding is twice the national average.

The data, published by the health and care watchdog, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), is being loudly applauded by Devon County Council and NEW Devon CCG.

19 of 435 care homes in Devon (4 percent), inspected by the CQC, are considered ‘outstanding’ homes, compared to just 2 percent of care homes in England overall.

Local Kia dealership, Marsh Kia, is proud to announce its support of Torbay and South Devon NHS Trust for the next three years.

The sponsorship supports the trust’s transport division in raising funds for a stair lifter. The stair lifters provide an easy and safe method of moving patients from their accommodation to the ambulances. Local girl Abbie Baker has earned herself a place in the finals of Miss Sensational UK after winning her title Miss Devon Sensational UK, where she will stand alongside girls from all over Great Britain.
