Crew rescued from stricken tug off Devon coast

Further update: The tug Christos XXII , damaged after the vessel it was towing collided into its side off Torbay yesterday, is now stable with risk of pollution very low.

Attention has now turned to the towed vessel, an ex German Naval training ship the Emssttrom , which had been listing too heavily for salvors to get onboard. This vessel has now sunk, approximately 2.5 nautical miles east by north from Hope’s Nose, Torquay in 23 metres of water. This ship is empty and is not a pollution risk.

Wooden post is evidence in Totnes Post Office Burglary

Police investigating the Christmas Day burglary at Bridgetown Post Office, Totnes, are appealing for information about a wooden post that was left at the scene. The post was marked Torbay Totnes Trail, John Musgrave Trail, and County Road, Devon County Council. Officers hope that someone who regularly walks the trail may be able to pinpoint where the sign was taken from.

A 4-wheel drive vehicle was used to smash a window in the premises and the suspects made off in a Subaru. The Subaru later crashed on the A381 and one of the occupants, a 25-year-old man was arrested.

Fire service Simulator used to prevent drink driving

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) are encouraging the public in Torbay to ‘drive’ their Simulator as part of this year’s anti drink driving campaign.

They have joined forces with Torbay Police and Torbay Council Road Safety Team to promote the importance of not drinking and driving this Christmas. Torbay Community Safety Sergeant Louise Costin said, “The campaign is a Torbay initiative as part of the force-wide operation to crack down on drinking and driving over Christmas through both education and enforcement.

Police increasingly concerned for missing Torbay man

Police Officers in Torbay are growing increasingly concerned for John Basham aged 49 who has not been seen since Sunday 11th November 2012. John has been reported missing by concerned family and friends and they are desperate to know his whereabouts to ensure that he is safe and well.

John is from the Chelston area of Torquay and was last seen going for a walk in the local area, which may have included Cockington.
