Appeal after suitcase stolen from train

Police have issued an image of a man who tried to use a stolen bank card in Torquay, which was taken in a suitcase theft on a Liskeard-bound train.

Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) hope someone will recognise the man – caught on camera outside the Halifax bank on Union Street making several attempts to enter the pin number– and come forward with his name.

A laptop was among other items inside the suitcase, which was stolen on the 4.25pm First Great Western train from Exeter on 19 July.

CCTV appeal after sexual assault on train

Update: 23 September: Police investigating a sexual assault, which happened on a train between Taunton and Exeter on 15 July, have arrested a man in connection with the matter.

The 36-year-old from Bideford was arrested yesterday (23 September) on suspicion of sexual assault. He was later released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The man came forward following a media appeal to trace a person detectives wanted to speak to about the incident. Officers would like to thank all those who shared the appeal.

FGW announce service plan during rail strike

First Great Western (FGW) has issued details of disruption to its services if planned strikes by workers go ahead over the next couple of weeks.

The company has confirmed it expects to run the majority of London Thames Valley services but long distance and local rail services will be reduced, should the planned strike action go ahead.

Should industrial action go ahead it is likely to affect long distance and local rail services throughout Sunday 23 August and from Saturday 29 through to the end of service on Monday 31 August.

First trains arrive at Newcourt Station

The first service to arrive at the station was from Exeter St David’s, pulling up at 05:56, followed by a train from Exmouth, which arrived at 06:29.

Exeter pupils to launch Avocet Line poster

School children from Newtown Primary School in Exeter will be launching a new poster they have designed to promote travel on the Avocet Line, the branch line which links Exeter and Exmouth.

Courtesy of First Great Western, the children were taken on a familiarisation trip from Polsloe Bridge station to Exmouth by the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership and members of the Avocet Line Rail Users Group (ALRUG) last summer.

FGW announces SAD Therapy train carriage

Passengers enjoyed the first ever SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) therapy train carriage on the First Great Western 7.06am train from London Paddington Station to Penzance, Cornwall on Monday 2 January.

First Great Western collaborated with charity SADA, the Seasonal Affective Disorder Association, to see how they could brighten passenger’s journeys as the winter blues take their toll.

Police appeal after theft from train

British Transport Police (BTP) officers are appealing for the public’s help to identify two men they would like to speak to in connection with the theft of a passenger’s property from a train.

Officers believe the men in this photograph will have information which can assist the investigation into the incident which took place on a northbound CrossCountry service on Thursday, 31 July 2014.
