The event is being run in partnership between Devon Wildlife Trust and the University of Exeter as part of the Festival of Ecology which forms part of the British Ecological Society’s centenary celebrations.
The Race to Discover the Local Biodiversity will take the form of a Bioblitz. A Bioblitz is where you find, indentify and record as many plants and animals in one area as possible.

The Innovation Awards funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) will enable Professor Adam Zeman, from the University of Exeter Medical School, to study the ‘Mind’s Eye’, the distinctively human ability to imagine. New evidence indicates glaciers present 11,000 years later than believed
Research led by a scientist from the University of Exeter has shown that Britain was home to small glaciers within the last few centuries – around 11,000 years later than previously thought. Vaughan Williams' tribute to Tallis calls for a large string orchestra divided into three parts: the full string choir, a single desk from each section and a solo string quartet. The Tallis melody "Why fum'th in fight the Gentiles spite, in fury raging stout?" is one of nine included in the Psalter of 1567 for the first Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury. The theme is heard in its complete form three times and serves as the source for a wonderful miasma of variants and developments in this rich orchestral composition.
