Two weeks left for voters to apply for free ID

There are just two weeks left to apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate, for voters that do not have another accepted form of photo ID they can use in polling stations this May. The Electoral Commission is calling on anyone that needs the free ID to apply now, before the deadline of 5pm on Tuesday 25 April.

Over 55,000 people have already applied for a Voter Authority Certificate ahead of the May elections, where photo ID will be required for the first time at polling stations in England.

Police appeal for witnesses following sexual assault in Ludwell Valley Park

Police are investigating a sexual assault that took place in Exeter over the weekend.

Officers are undertaking searches in the Ludwell Valley Park area of Exeter following a report of a sexual assault having taken place on the afternoon of Sunday 9 April.

Detective Superintendent Jon Bancroft said: “Officers remain in the area undertaking enquiries following the report of a sexual assault in the area, and a scene guard is in place within Ludwell Valley Park.

Ukrainian Easter Celebration at Exeter Cathedral

In Ukraine, Easter is called Velykden, or The Great Day. As in many cultures, Velykden is both a religious and secular holiday combining Christian and ancient traditional practices and symbolism.

The Devon Ukrainian Association in collaboration with Exeter Cathedral is pleased to host the first Ukrainian Orthodox Easter service and the blessing of Easter cakes and Easter eggs according to the Ukrainian tradition on 16 April at 11.30am.

IKEA Exeter reopens free in-store creche, Småland

IKEA Exeter has announced the reopening of its free in-store creche area, Småland, from Friday 7th April. It comes following the closure of the service in March 2020 due to the pandemic.

Housebuilder supports cancer charity raffle event in Cranbrook

Taylor Wimpey has proudly assisted Cranbrook Running Club with its support towards Force Cancer Charity. The running club organised a charity raffle event in Cranbrook, which Taylor Wimpey proudly supported with a £250 donation, allowing the club to purchase further items to raise more funds to then hand over to the charity.

University of Exeter installs 3D sculpture to raise awareness of research in parasites

A fascinating 3D sculpture has been installed at the University of Exeter’s Living Systems Institute, helping to raise awareness of its research on microsporidia.

Microsporidia are important pathogens infecting a diversity of animals including humans, honeybees, and farmed fish and shrimp, causing disease and, in some cases, death. Microsporidia parasites are found as dormant spores in the environment, which when eaten by a host “germinate”. Despite their importance, these parasites are not well-known by the general public, with most people never having heard of them.

Open day for Britannia Project

A rare wooden boat being restored in a Devon village is celebrating its 108th birthday with an open day on 10 April.

The 58ft Britannia is being rebuilt by Sam and Vicki Samuels and a team of volunteers, 20 miles from the sea in the village of Winkleigh. A key part of the project is to train disadvantaged young people in the art of boatbuilding.

Funding boost to YMCA South Devon

The south Devon branch of the renowned charity YMCA, the largest and oldest youth charity in the world, has received a £1,500 boost from a local housebuilder.
