Princesshay to host free family fun day in Easter holidays

On Saturday 15th April, 11am – 4pm, Princesshay Square will be transformed into a vibrant pop-up Family Fun Day with a range of free activities to keep visitors of all ages entertained during the Easter holidays.

Visitors to the event will be able to enjoy live music, a round of crazy golf, giant Jenga, balloon modelling, or get creative with giant colouring wall and free children’s Macramé crafting sessions, plus take part in the Golden Ticket Spring trail to be in with a chance of winning a Devon’s Top Attractions Golden Ticket, worth over £1500!

Funding boost to YMCA South Devon

The south Devon branch of the renowned charity YMCA, the largest and oldest youth charity in the world, has received a £1,500 boost from a local housebuilder.

YMCA South Devon runs various projects for young people, this can include providing temporary safe community accommodation for them if they find themselves homeless (Nightstop), Social & Emotional support for young people struggling to cope in mainstream school (Fit for Life), or ante-natal support for young parents (Bumps to Babies). Exeter Airport and RNIB lead the way on ‘benchmark’ sight loss awareness sessions

Staff at Exeter Airport have joined forces with RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People) to undertake specialist awareness sessions, aimed at better-assisting passengers with sight loss and reduced mobility.

Around 20 members of the passenger assistance team (pictured) were involved in a series of two-hour practical sessions with the charity, where they wore glasses simulating common eye conditions and used white canes to complete a typical passenger journey through the airport.

A mum-of-three is running the 2023 TCS London Marathon in memory of her rugby player husband who died suddenly.

Jill Sims will be taking on the 26.2-mile challenge in memory of her husband, Dave, who died from a sudden heart attack in March last year just moments before he was due to meet up with his three sons.

Jill, aged 55 and from Bradninch, said: “Six months before he died, Dave had gone to his doctor. He’d woken up in the early hours of the morning with chest pains. He was perspiring too and I was worried there might have been something wrong with his heart.”...

Wales & West Utilities links with Exeter charity

Wales & West Utilities has linked with an Exeter charity to provide support to homeless and vulnerably housed people across the city.

The gas emergency and pipeline service has partnered with St Petrock’s to provide ‘Keep Warm’ packs for homeless individuals, whilst carbon monoxide safety alarms are being distributed to vulnerably housed people known to the charity.

Fittest farmer qualifiers to take place at Devon County Show 2023

Devon County Show is to play host to the qualifying rounds to find ‘Britain’s Fittest Farmer of 2023’.
