Exeter-based tech company named in global top 10 VR experiences of 2019

A virtual reality simulation developed near Exeter has made a global list of top 10 VR experiences for 2019.

The training simulation was developed for Concawe, a safety advisory board for the European oil refinery industry.

It is designed to train oil refinery plant operators in hazard perception techniques and safety awareness, using gaze strategy research from academics at the University of Exeter.

The list of VR experiences was compiled by virtualrealitymarketing.com, the world’s biggest business directory of VR, AR and 360 video studios.

Exeter insurance company’s incredible year of fundraising for children’s hospice

Staff at local insurer The Exeter have raised an incredible £21,716.64 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW).

The health and life cover specialists, based at the Exeter Business Park in Emperor way, chose CHSW as their charity partner in 2019 and staff stepped up to support the cause in a number of ways.

Housebuilder brings £37 million investment to local area in 2019

Five star housebuilder Barratt Developments has built 591 new homes in the Exeter region in the last 12 months, and brought more than £37 million to local communities.

The figures are obtained from the company’s annual socio-economic footprint and highlight how much the local economy benefits from the building of new homes, thanks to a combination of programmes that form part of each new housing development.

Nearly £13,000 has been raised by Devon and Dorset co-operative colleagues and customers in 2019 for local causes close to their hearts.

Every year, each convenience store part of Southern Co-op, partners with a special local cause chosen by colleagues.

The Co-operative Food store colleagues then have a year to hold fundraising events in aid of the cause.

People across Devon are being urged to take extra care when travelling this evening and tomorrow with high winds and rain expected in some parts of Devon. (Monday and Tuesday 13/14 January).

High winds are forecast until midnight tonight and tomorrow. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for the remainder of today and from 12 noon Tuesday 14 January until 12 midnight.

RGB Building Supplies has selected Exeter’s Ladysmith Junior School as a finalist in their latest Well Built Community Fund, and it’s now down to a public vote to see if it’s chosen to receive £1,000, to spend at an RGB branch.
