Exeter’s Guildhall Shopping Centre opened its doors to a sweet new resident this morning, with the grand opening of Krispy Kreme’s 122nd UK store. Around 70 eager Krispy Kreme fans were in line, queuing from the early hours of the morning to get their hands on the freshly made treats. Jammy enough to be first in line, and win themselves a year’s supply of doughnuts, was Dennis Janowski, who arrived at the shopping centre at 7.30 this morning.

Katie trikes to success - and raises over £2,000 for local charity

Exeter resident Katie Dicker took to her specially adapted trike at the weekend (Saturday 18 August) and has raised nearly £2,100 so far for Dream-A-Way – a charity that provides holiday grants and trips for people with physical and learning disabilities. Katie, a Guinness Care customer who has severe physical disabilities and is visually impaired, completed the massive challenge of cycling over 2 miles around Exeter’s Roman city wall. Mark Thompson, who works at the Marsh Barton restaurant in Exeter, has recently celebrated 35 years with the company.

Mark began working at McDonald’s in 1983 as a Crew Member in the Friar Street restaurant in Reading and has since spent much of his career as a Shift Manager; running restaurants’ breakfast, day and night shifts. Mark currently works as a Customer Experience Manager four days a week and is responsible for ensuring the restaurant delivers the best possible customer care.

New patrol boat for the Exe Estuary

A new patrol boat has been launched in the Exe Estuary to help protect wildlife and ensure water users stay safe.

The 5.75-metre-long patrol boat has been funded by the South East Devon Habitat Regulations Executive Committee (SEDHREC) -- a partnership of Teignbridge, Exeter and East Devon Councils set up to help protect internationally important conservation sites on the Exe Estuary, Dawlish Warren and East Devon's Pebblebed Heaths. Bought from a local business, the £27,000 boat was paid for with money from developers of new housing across the 3 council areas.

Last weekend, the beautiful deer park of Powderham Castle saw traders and visitors revelling in the Chilli and BBQ festival fun. Overlooked by the Castle, the grounds were filled with the bright colours of the festival flags and gazebos, and many visitors took to wearing colourful sombreros to keep off the sun.

Caterers provided a great variety of food, from Moroccan to pizza, and traders from near and far brought their chilli sauces, marinades, hot smokers, cheeses, ceramics, brownies, chilli plants and more, which saw the public leaving with bursting bags of goodies.
