South West scoops top awards at the National Trust Fine Farm Produce Awards

Ten of the very best farm food producers in the South West walked away with 22 of the top awards at the National Trust’s annual Fine Farm Produce Awards, presented at BBC Countryfile Live at Blenheim Palace.

Now in their thirteenth year, the awards celebrate the finest produce from the Trust’s 1,500 tenant farmers and estates, who between them look after more than 500,000 acres of farmland in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. As well as being judged for taste, products are assessed against a range of environmental standards to guarantee their quality and origin.

Held at The Donkey Sanctuary’s beautiful site near Sidmouth, the Summer Fair on Sunday 12 August, is by far the sanctuary’s biggest event of the year.

Promising a fun day out for the whole family, the Summer Fair features a packed programme of events including live music, trailer rides, Punch and Judy, archery, go-karting, traditional family games and bouncy castles. Plus, the chance to meet the resident donkeys!

New Exeter skate park designs revealed

Exciting new designs have been revealed for a new skate park in Exeter. The new facility at Arena Park is to be built in September and is expected to be finished before Christmas. The design of the park has been chosen by a group of local pro skaters working to a design brief heavily influenced by the local skating community. Exeter City Council this week appointed Maverick Industries to build the skate park. Designs show a range of features popular with skaters including ramps, quarterpipes, flatbanks, ledges and rails. Exeter’s budding creatives called to enter new competition

A new initiative launches today, giving Exeter’s emerging artists and designers a unique opportunity to take over a large window space on Paris Street. Exeter-based designer, Charlotte Froud, approached Princesshay with the idea for the competition to use the large available window display space on Paris Street. The initiative has been supported by both Princesshay and Exeter City Council.

The Donkey Sanctuary’s stolen tractor is recovered in Ireland

A tractor stolen from the Sidmouth headquarters of the international animal welfare charity, The Donkey Sanctuary, has been recovered by the Garda in Ireland. The John Deere 6220 Loader Tractor was stolen from the charity’s Trow Farm in Sidmouth in November 2017. The vehicle has since been professionally cloned into a 6320 model to try and disguise its identity. The Donkey Sanctuary relies on its tractors to transport the donkeys’ feed and bedding, particularly over the harsh winter months.
