City businesses cycle for charity

Exeter Business Club’s chosen charity this year is CEDA, the Exeter based organisation that offers learning and social opportunities to disabled adults and children. CEDA’s Craig Bowden, seen here centre left, received a cheque for £1,500 from the club’s secretary Ben Didier.

Every year EBC chooses a city-based charity as their chosen cause. Funds are raised through membership fees and a variety of social events. Club members even joined in CEDA’s recent cycling challenge by riding three static bikes and pedalling away throughout one of their meetings.

Devon crowds will have the chance to see 11 of the UCI’s (Union Cycliste Internationale) top level WorldTour teams race compete in the Tour of Britain this September.

The final list of 20 teams for the OVO Energy Tour of Britain has now been confirmed and it includes the four British UCI Continental teams that have qualified for the UK’s most prestigious cycle race. Stage 2 of the race will take place on Monday September 3. A packed programme of events to encourage children to pack books along with snacks and sunscreen for all their summer activities has been launched across Devon and Torbay. The Summer Reading Challenge 2018 has officially started across the 54 libraries in Devon and Torbay with well over 600 participants signed up on the first day. It’s hoped that this year’s Challenge, which has the theme of ‘Mischief Makers’ and is inspired by the historic Beano comic which celebrates its 80th anniversary this year, will once again involve thousands of children from across the county. Penalty shoot-out raises over £389 for children’s hospice

With football fever having gripped the country over the past month, the Exeter branch of RGB Building Supplies recently gave customers and staff the chance to score a penalty against the company’s mascot Archie Bee, helping to raise £389.73 for Children’s Hospice South West.

Penalty takers made a £1 donation to take their shot and all those that beat Archie Bee were entered into a prize draw to win a Sharp 49” LED TV.
