Wildlife haven vision for former Exeter golf course backed by residents

Overwhelming backing proposals to enhance a former golf course into a much-loved green space in the heart of Exeter has been given by residents following a public consultation.

Exeter City Council earlier this year launched a consultation on how best to enhance the former Northbrook Approach golf course off Topsham Road in the year in partnership with Devon Wildlife Trust, following approval for the go-ahead from the council’s executive back in February 2020.

Maynard School in Exeter, threw themselves into all things maths last month as part of a special UK wide fundraising day in aid of the NSPCC.

Quick-thinking groom helps to deliver donkey’s foal

A quick-thinking groom helped a donkey deliver her foal safely, after one of its front legs became stuck during birth, at international animal welfare charity, The Donkey Sanctuary.

The mare, called Abbie, went into labour on Tuesday evening (8 June), and when groom, Lisa Coles went to check on her, she quickly realised that one of the foal’s front legs was stuck. Lisa could see that Abbie was struggling and knew that she had to do something fast to help her.

Devon ranks second highest for accidental drownings as national charity voices fears of sharp rise in incidences

A national rise in drowning figures has prompted the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) to encourage parents in Devon to teach their children how to stay safe and enjoy water safely this summer, as part of its national Drowning Prevention Week campaign, 19-26 June 2021.
