A meeting of East Devon District Council’s Strategic Planning Committee due to take place next Wednesday (September 23) to discuss Cranbrook Town Centre has been postponed following significant changes to the original proposals by developers.

A key element of the meeting was to discuss the proposal put forward by the East Devon New Community Partners (EDNCp) who are the developers for the majority of Cranbrook and have control of the land in the town centre.

Exeter retains position in latest influential league ranking

The University of Exeter has retained its position amongst the best universities in the UK, according to the latest influential rankings.

The University maintained its 12th place nationally in the influential The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021.

Kickstart Grant Scheme reopening for tourism sector applications

The Growth Support Kickstart Team is delighted to announce that businesses operating in the tourism sector are invited to apply for the second round of the Kickstart Grant Scheme when the application window re-opens at midday on Monday (21 September).

After the initial allocation of funding, the Kickstart Team has £197,000 remaining for eligible tourism sector businesses located within the Heart of the South West LEP area which includes Devon, Plymouth, Somerset and Torbay.

Sovereign Housing Association is supporting Gas Safety Week this week by reminding residents of having an annual gas supply check by a Gas Safe Registered engineer.

SW has an above average number of smokers per capita in the UK, according to latest ONS figures

The South West has an above average number of smokers per capita in the UK, at 14.2% − above the average in England.

The best performing area in the South West is Stroud, with 9.6% of the population smoking. The three regions of Dorset Gloucestershire with 10.1% of the population smoking is the next lowest. East Devon is the third best performer, with 10.3% of people being smokers.
