A new guide published today by the RSPB and Barratt Developments, which is currently building brand-new communities across Devon, shows how to turn balconies and small gardens into sanctuaries for wildlife.

Devon's householders have the chance to help the county become net-zero by joining Devon Climate Emergency's (DCE) solar panel group-buying scheme.

DCE is made up of Devon's principle public and private sector organisations, and they have joined forces to draw up a Carbon Plan, the county's roadmap to carbon neutrality.

Wildlife charity People's Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) is, for the first time, running its Living with Mammals survey during autumn, from Monday 31st August until Sunday 29th November. This is the second time the survey has taken place this year, following a successful spring survey which proved popular during lockdown.

Late-night rescue mission to save drowning heifer from Devon river

A heifer who fell into a river and was washed downstream was saved after a two-hour rescue mission.

RSPCA animal welfare officer Steve Donohue rushed to the fields off Pennsylvania Road in Exeter on Tuesday night (18 August).

He said: “The heifer had fallen into the river and been washed downstream along the River Exe tributary.

“Debris from the storm had pinned her against the bank so she was struggling to get out and couldn’t keep her head above the 6ft-deep water.”
