£5k's got a nice ring to it!

A love-struck winner popped the question live on stage on Saturday 31 October to his girlfriend of two years after scooping a cheque for £5,991 at People’s Postcode Lottery’s Postcode Millions in Crediton.

Paul Riley, 54, was so overcome with emotion when his cheque was revealed that he got down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend Karen, 45.

When asked by People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador, Judie McCourt, what he was going to do with his money he declared “I need to buy a ring for my girlfriend now,” and asked the very important question in front of the packed crowd...

Cabinet consider new organisation to run Devon’s libraries

The creation of a new independent organisation to run Devon’s libraries could be given the green light next week.

Devon County Council’s Cabinet will consider final plans to establish a new ‘public service mutual’, which will run the library service from 1 April 2016.

The County Council will remain responsible for the library service, but will commission the delivery of the service from the new organisation, which will be owned by library staff and the community and managed by a Chief Executive and Board of Trustees.

Chudleigh Community Choir: Autumn Concert

Chudleigh Community Choir will be performing a varied programme of songs at their Autumn Concert in Chudleigh Parish Church on Sunday 22nd November, starting at 3pm. The choir, under their new Musical Director, Jane Anderson-Brown, will sing spirituals, part songs, protest songs and ‘something from the sea’. They will be accompanied on the piano by Janet Williams. There will be a guest appearance by Esme Rowe, the talented young singer who won Chudleigh’s Got Talent in July 2015. The concert is expected to last around an hour and will be followed by refreshments.

Chudleigh Christmas Fayre

Chudleigh’s Christmas season kicks off on Thursday 3rd December with a Christmas Fayre in the Town Centre, organised by the Chudfest committee in partnership with Chudleigh Town Council. Poll reveals parents’ concern over children’s lack of wildlife experiences

Evidence has been growing for a number of years pointing to the health and social benefits to be derived from contact with the natural world for all ages. However, results from a new YouGov poll, commissioned by The Wildlife Trusts, highlight the discrepancy between what parents think is best for children and what they actually experience.

Dogs Trust Ilfracombe will be “chewning” into the airwaves on Bonfire Night to help petrified pooches conquer their fear of fireworks and are urging Devon dog owners and radio stations to do the same. A Dogs Trust survey of 3,750 pet owners shows that two-thirds of dogs are worried by fireworks and that 93% of their owners alter their routine during fireworks celebrations to try to minimise the trauma on their pets. Exeter Airport has been voted the best in class at this year’s Travel Agents Choice Awards which were entirely nominated by and voted for by UK travel agents and designed to identify and acknowledge the industry’s favourites.

The UK travel retailers, who cast 1,000 votes for 42 categories, gave Exeter Airport top marks in the UK domestic airport category.
