A big ‘thank you’ has been given to the Teignmouth community today for ‘loving your beach’ and helping Teignmouth Town Beach reach tough new EU bathing water quality standards.

It means every beach in Teignbridge meets the new classifications.

The long-running Love Your Beach campaign, involving a range of organisations, has been championing Teignmouth’s cause and working hard to investigate the cause of reduced water quality, find solutions and inform residents, businesses and visitors about what they can do to help improve the quality of the sea that they swim in....

East Devon’s bathing waters cleaner than ever

The bathing waters at East Devon’s eight beaches have all passed the new stringent testing standards set by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

The announcement of the 2015 bathing water quality results, which was made by Defra earlier today, revealed that four of the district’s beaches received an Excellent classification – which is the highest and cleanest class, while three received a Good water quality rating and one, Ladram Bay (which is privately owned and managed) a Sufficient rating.

RNRMC nominated for best fundraiser at the Payroll Giving Excellence Awards

The successful work of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity’s (RNRMC) dedicated fundraising team has resulted in a nomination for Best Fundraiser at the National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards 2015, which will be held on November 17th at the House of Lords in London.

The RNRMC has seen Payroll Giving donations increase an average of 8 per cent a year since 2010, helping it achieve its aim which is to support Serving Personnel, veterans and their families, for life. A major food company which was devastated by flooding is calling on other businesses to take action to prepare for severe weather.

Greencore is urging businesses to make sure they know their flood risk as the Environment Agency launches its annual Flood Action campaign,

307 Squadron Project invites you to Exeter’s Guildhall, on 15 November 2015, to remember the Polish 307 Squadron that defended the South West of England during the Second World War.

This special event is being attended by The Polish Ambassador Witold Sobków.

Police respond to HMIC Rape Monitoring Group report

In reponse to the HMIC Rape Monitoring Group report out today, Thursday 5 November, Detective Superintendent Keith Perkin, Head of the Public Protection Unit, said: “The increase in reports of rape in Devon and Cornwall is in line with the national average.

“The report indicates that 87% of the increased reports nationally, between October 2012 and March 2015, is as a consequence of Operation Yewtree, the investigation into Jimmy Saville. Devon and Cornwall have not been immune to this and a percentage of the increased reports are down to this.

Exe-Arts, the community arts initiative set up by Superact's Patsy Lang, has reached the halfway milestone after a busy two months of fun creative workshops for all ages in art forms ranging from environmental sculpture and photography to graffiti art and experimental drawing.

Luxury jeweller Fraser Hart in Drake Mall, Plymouth, has more than enough style to take on James Bond – and share the limelight with the British spy in his latest outing as 007.

Spectre’s premiere was the springboard for Omega to launch its limited Bond edition watches.

Omega and the iconic 007 character have long associations: James Bond has worn an Omega watch since Pierce Brosnan embodied him in GoldenEye in 1995.
