Drive to make Exeter an active city

An exciting campaign to make Exeter the most active city in the South West stepped into gear.

Get Active Exeter is a growing partnership of public and private sector organisations, including local media, large employers and councils, who have joined together in a bid to make the city the most active in the South West by 2018.

A programme of activity will run over three years, and will include 90 different get active projects across the city.

Exeter Chiefs forward Don Armand has warned he and his team-mates can ill afford to “rest on their laurels” despite getting their Aviva Premiership campaign up and running with victory over London Irish on Saturday.

TEDxExeter set to double audience in 2016

TEDxExeter will offer twice as many tickets for its 2016 conference as it did last year. Exeter’s leading festival of ideas, which is now in its fifth year, is responding to the unprecedented level of demand last year, when tickets sold out in two hours, and all concessionary tickets were gone in under 20 minutes.

Weather warning of heavy rain

A weather warning of heavy rain has been issued for Devon.

Outbreaks of rain will turn heavy at times during Tuesday (27 October) and the Met Office is warning that there is a risk of local surface water flooding.

Chief forecaster at the Exeter-based agency said: “A slow moving front will bring heavy bursts of rain, giving the potential for over 50mm of rain within a few hours.

“Leaves may impede drainage, increasing the risk of some flooding, for example, to sections of road.”
