A second round of consultation has been launched on changes to streets in the Heavitree and Whipton areas of Exeter.
More than 570 people took part in the initial consultation last year. This raised a number of key issues including the need for priority to be given to walking and cycling and to reduce the impact of vehicle traffic on a number of residential roads, including Ladysmith Road, Hamlin Lane, Sweetbrier Lane and Thornpark Rise. There were also calls for measures to improve safety on the roundabout at Sweetbrier Lane and Whipton Lane, as well as requests for electric...
People from Devon can get on their bike and raise vital funds for Diabetes UK this autumn by taking part in a cycling challenge.
The UK Wide Cycle Ride runs throughout September and is a perfect opportunity to take your fitness up a gear while raising money for diabetes research along the way.
Challengers can pick from one of four virtual distances, ranging from 150 miles for beginners through to 950 miles for more experienced cyclists, and they have the entire month to clock up the mileage. The aim is to challenge yourself – at your own pace – and pedal towards a...
Summer Lane in Exeter has re-opened to through traffic (Wednesday 20 January) as the finishing touches are applied to the new pedestrian and cycle bridge.
The bridge will open to pedestrians and cyclists next month, once the installation of handrails and guardrails has been completed.
The new 18-metre span structure will link the first two kilometres of Devon County Council’s E4 cycle route. This section of the cycle route links seamlessly with the high-quality segregated cycle route already completed along Cumberland Way, Pinhoe Road and Exhibition Way, providing a...
Devon’s walking and cycle trails have seen increased use this year and with routes continuing to be busy during the current lockdown, the County Council is encouraging everyone to give each other plenty of space.

The County Council is reminding everyone of its “Share this Space” campaign and is...
The expanding cycle network in Exeter received another lift at the weekend, with the installation of a new pedestrian and cycle bridge.
The new bridge at Summer Lane completes the first two kilometres of Devon County Council's E4 cycle route - providing a vital connection between Exeter Arena/Exhibition Fields and Bettysmead Playing Fields.
It establishes a direct link which will shorten the route and will remove sharp deviations in direction, narrow shared paths, and the necessity to use a Toucan crossing on Summer Lane.
New temporary traffic calming measures to support social distancing and provide a safer environment to encourage walking and cycling in Exeter are now in place. The changes are the first set of traffic calming measures along the E3 cycle route linking Heavitree and Whipton to the City Centre. The route also passes close to four primary schools, a secondary school as well as local parks.
The changes also include temporary traffic order preventing through traffic in several roads.
These include Vaughan Road, from the junction with Clifford Close to the junction with Bodley...

A total length of 1.1 kilometres, it will form part of the Clyst Valley Trail. When complete the Trail will be a 13-km (8 mile) commuting and leisure route, linking the Exe Estuary Trail at Darts Farm with Killerton House and Park by way of an existing multi-use trail from Broadclyst.
Six men will be embarking on a 670-mile cycle trip across Europe next month, with the help of Exeter City FC, in memory of a friend and to raise much-needed funds and awareness for three charities.

The date is the birthday of their good friend Jason Cloke who, due to a genetic illness called haemochromatosis, died at the age of 42 in 2010.
The friends, who all met at Exwick Junior School before going...

Students from Exeter College and St Luke's College have enjoyed a site visit to the new cycle route currently being constructed on Cumberland Way and Pinhoe Road in Exeter.
The two-way cycle path will form part of a strategic cycle route connecting new developments on the east of Exeter to the university and the city centre.
Work is progressing well on the E4 route, which will be the first two-way, bi-directional cycle track in Devon, and students were able to see first hand how the route is being built.
Devon County Council representatives described the...
