Hopping 'Mud' for Charity
A group of Exeter girls took part in the Commando Challenge earlier this month to raise money for a charity that is hugely important to the region.
Kate Furnifer, Senior Account Manager at Chalk & Ward Advertising in Exeter, Lauren Dryden, Oda Sonju, Kate Holloway and Becky Herniman took on cross country running, mud and the notorious ‘sheep dip’ in the 10k challenge to raise money for The Royal Marines Charitable Trust Foundation and The Devon Air Ambulance.
Kate said “The Royal Marines Trust is very significant to all of us, many of us have friends and family members that serve and have served in the Marines, and none of us can underestimate the importance of supporting the Devon Air Ambulance and what it means to the region to have this resource, the Commando Challenge is a great way to raise money and awareness whilst having fun”
The Mud Bunnies raised a total of £600 which will be split equally between both causes.
The Commando Challenge, now in its 23rd year, attracted only 80 entrants when it first started in 1990. Popularity for the event has grown so much over the years that in 2011 the decision was taken to add a further 17k ‘Endurance’ race to allow for more people to enter, and for the runners in the 4k and 10k races to have something to aim for.
