A major South West conservation charity has announced its patrons. Both are star names regionally and nationally.

Naturalist Nick Baker and broadcaster Judi Spiers have been unveiled as patrons of Wild Planet Trust, the charity that runs Paignton Zoo, Living Coasts in Torquay and Newquay Zoo in Cornwall.

Finalists announced for 2019 South West Chef of the Year

The finalists for this year’s South West Chef of the Year competition have been chosen and now face the final round where they will be cooking for judges on the 22nd October at Exeter College.

The finalists in the Professional and Young Professional categories will cook a three-course menu using ingredients supplied by the competition’s sponsors. They are given only one week’s notice about the meat or fish they will be using and just 30 minutes for all the other ingredients. A team of eleven, wader clad volunteers from Simpkins Edwards, Exeter, recently swapped a day in the office for a day on the banks of the beautiful River Tale in East Devon to support the work of The Tale Valley Trust.

Exeter College Hockey Academy Coach Gus McVey has helped Zimbabwe Ladies to a bronze medal in the African Olympic Qualifying Tournament which was held in Cape Town.
