Exeter Three to row Atlantic in the fight against ocean plastics

Three Exeter women are to tackle one of the world’s toughest rowing events, the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge, a 3,400-plus mile crossing from the Canary isle of La Gomera to Antigua, West Indies.

Bridge lift completed ahead of schedule

A new pedestrian and cycle bridge over the M5 at Exeter has successfully been lifted into place over the weekend.

The 60-metre span Tithebarn Lane bridge was positioned alongside the existing overbridge, just north of Junction 29 of the motorway, overnight on Saturday (18 November) evening. It took 3.5 hours to fully rig the 750 tonne crane and the bridge lift started at 12:30am. The M5 was closed during the lifting operation, but re-opened three hours ahead of schedule on Sunday morning. Since staff voted Macmillan Cancer Support as their first charity partner in January 2016, Inchcape Retail has raised an incredible £110,000 and counting. Over the last 18 months employees have taken part in a number of key fundraising activities including their latest activity – The Colla-bear-ator Challenge, which involved the relay of an Inchcape teddy bear from Inchcape’s most northerly site in Sunderland to Inchcape’s most southerly site in Exeter. A campaign to help the most vulnerable in our communities to stay warm and well this winter has launched.

The Surviving Winter appeal asks those who feel they can, to consider donating to those who desperately need extra support during the cold winter months. Many previous donors have donated their Winter Fuel payment if they don’t need it but want to make sure it is well used.

Exeter’s very own night at the proms was another fantastic success with nearly £20,000 raised for the city’s leading cancer support charity.

Classics Galore! has been staged every two years since 2007 and the 10th anniversary concert at the University of Exeter Great Hall had the audience of more than 1,000 on their feet.
