Lip Service Theatre Jane Austen is dreaming up Darcy, a proud, lip-curling handsome creation in very tight pants. But then a door squeaks, a visitor approaches and Jane hastily hides her work. Mr Darcy is left dangling. Left to his own devices he embroiders his own storyline while his creator stitches her quilt. When she returns she finds Darcy is diving into a lake in a clinging white shirt, dancing the Berzerka (a more extreme version of the Masurka) and wrestling carp.

Pheasant roadkill peaks in autumn and late winter

Chickens’ motives for crossing the road are often questioned – but pheasants should probably avoid it altogether, new research suggests.

Researchers from the universities of Exeter and Cardiff compared roadkill figures from the 1960s and 2010s – before and after the start of mass release programmes of pheasants for shooting – and found pheasants remain disproportionately likely to be run over compared to other birds.

Moortec's expansion continues with new UK headquarters in Plymouth

Moortec, specialists in the design of in-chip monitors, has based its new UK headquarters at Plymouth Science Park.

Devon’s Good Game Set to Expand After Securing £80k Investment Deal

Award-winning charcuterie company, Good Game, has been awarded £40k of EU funding, matched by a further £40k investment of their own as part of a growth strategy.

To support the company’s ambition to increase production by 300%, the Topsham based manufacturer has completed its custom-built premises at Darts Business Park. Local Vauxhall retailer, Eden Motor Group, recently brewed up a massive £15,200 for Macmillan Cancer Support after taking part in the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’. Eden Motor Group, with dealerships in Exeter, Honiton, Newton Abbot and Torquay, served up slices of cake and numerous cuppas on 29th September in order to raise much needed funds for the charity. Summer reading success makes way for autumn ‘Active Life’ campaign in Devon Libraries

The results from this year’s Summer Reading Challenge have been revealed, coinciding with the launch of the 2017 Active Life Active Mind programme of Devon library events throughout October.

The 2017 Summer Reading Challenge saw an impressive 10,522 children in Devon aged between four and eleven sign up to read six books during the summer holidays.

All 50 of Devon’s Libraries, run by Libraries Unlimited, held events and activities to inspire children to read throughout their summer break, resulting in 892 children signing up to become new members of Devon Libraries....

On 5th October, the finalists from the Devon Schools Choir Competition, run by La La Choirs, took centre stage at Southernhay URC and competed for a chance to perform in Exeter Cathedral at the annual sell out concert, CLIC for Christmas. Five choirs had been shortlisted and all the choirs at the final sang two songs each. Yet again, the standard was incredibly high, giving the judging panel a really hard time deciding between them.

Breastfeeding mothers converged on Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) on Thursday (5 October) to see the winning painting in the BP Portrait Award 2017 exhibition (4 October to 3 December) and celebrate breastfeeding.
