Plans are being drawn up to regenerate the Axminster Carpets’ spinning mill at Buckfast, just weeks after it closed with the loss of more than 100 jobs.
The ambitious project has been undertaken by The Buckfast Abbey Trust which bought the 9.24 acre site from administrators at the end of March.
Consultants have been appointed to help develop the masterplan which will be discussed with local residents.

Staff at a Devon County Council recycling centre in Exeter were shocked to see a cat stranded in a deep container amongst unwanted materials deposited by local residents.
SITA UK employees Chris Murphy and John Hallett who were working at the Pinbrook Road recycling centre on Sunday 12 May, sprung into action to rescue the cat.
They placed it in a second hand cat basket, that was fortunately available in the recycling centre’s resale shop, and called the local people at Cats Protection who were soon on the scene and took the male cat into their care.

The Benyounes Quartet is rapidly emerging as one of the most exciting young British ensembles. In June 2012, the quartet won 2nd prize at the 1st International Sandor Vegh String Quartet Competition in Budapest and they received four special prizes including Best Interpretation of a Bartok Quartet and Best Performance of the commissioned piece. They were also invited to perform at the new Liszt Academy and in the Budapest Spring Festival in 2013. In May 2012, the quartet reached the final of Young Classical Artist Trust, performing at the Wigmore Hall.
