New permanent headteacher in place at West Exe

The governors of West Exe Technology College have appointed acting head Vicki Carah as the school’s permanent new headteacher.

Mrs Carah was one of six candidates for the post who were interviewed in a three-day process. She has been acting head since last summer.

New activities for young people in Exmouth

Devon County Council's Devon Youth Service in Exmouth is starting new Wednesday evening sessions for people in school years seven and eight.

Between 6.30pm and 8.30pm, the Hive youth centre on Imperial Road is arranging activities including arts and crafts, table tennis, hall games, karaoke, cooking and more.

The sessions are run by two qualified youth workers with young volunteers.

Exeter primary schools to receive safe internet training

Devon and Cornwall Police have developed a safe internet training course for primary schools in Exeter.

The course guides attendees through the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) ‘think U know?’ suite of activities for children.

Community safety officer Julia Watton says, “With the internet being used for every aspect of our lives, it’s imperative that children are educated in its uses and safeguarded from its dangers”.

Police appeal after thief steals church silverware

Police in Exmouth are appealing for information following the theft of silverware from the church of St Michaels & All Angels in Otterton, East Devon sometime between Sunday 20th January and Thursday 24th January.

The offender(s) entered the church during daylight when the Church was unlocked and stole silverware from the vestry.

Amongst items stolen were a silver wafer box holder, three silver chalices and a small silver dish.

Chiefs confirm departure of Muldowney to Connaght

After two seasons with the Exeter Chiefs, Aly Muldowney is to depart Sandy Park at the end of the current campaign to take up a new challenge with Irish province Connacht.

Signed by Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter from Glasgow Warriors, the 29-year-old forward has since gone onto feature 35 times for the club in all competitions.

The Stafford-born second-row, who is Irish qualified by virtue of his father being born in Newbridge, Co.Kildare, has agreed a three-year contract with the Galway-based outfit.

Rearranged date for City’s trip to Bristol Rovers announced

The rearranged date for Exeter City’s trip to Bristol Rovers has been announced as Wednesday 6th March (7.45pm).

City’s trip to the Memorial Stadium was originally due to take place last weekend, but heavy snowfall in the Bristol area meant the game had to be called off on grounds of safety.

Now the West Country derby between the Grecians and the Pirates will take place under the floodlights at the Mem on a Wednesday evening.

Person treated for smoke inhalation after garage fire

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue have reported that it received several calls from the public regarding a building fire in a garage in the St Thomas area of Exeter.

A Fire Service spokesperson said: "Two pumps from Middlemoor and Danes Castle were mobilised to attend the incident, and a third appliance was also required due to the increased calls from the public.

"Four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and a covering jet were used to control the fire. An ambulance was requested to assist one minor casualty at the incident suffering from smoke inhalation. A...
