Big names at Apprenticeship Expo in Exeter

More than 50 of the region's top employers will be setting out their stalls at The Apprenticeship Expo 2015 in Exeter.

Among those who have signed up including big names including Mercedes Benz, FlyBe, First Great Western, the Army and BT.

They have all committed to showcasing their commitment to employing young people in the region and the benefits of Apprenticeships.

The event takes place at the Exeter College Technology Centre at Monkerton on Thursday 12 March.

It is supported by the National Apprenticeship Service, the NHS, Alcoa Howmet and Exeter...

South West Water has been recognised in the prestigious Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers list which is compiled annually by the National Apprenticeship Service to celebrate excellence in businesses that employ apprentices.

The news comes as the company welcomes 14 new apprentices to its apprenticeship programme for 2014.

Neil Parish, MP for Tiverton and Honiton, is holding the Mid Devon Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair on Friday 4th October at Tiverton High School in association with the National Apprenticeship Service and Jobs Centre Plus. The Jobs fair will help school leavers and job seekers find work and get careers advice to give young people the experience and skills they need to enter the workplace.

It follows a hugely successful Jobs Fair held in Honiton organised by Neil Parish earlier this year.

SWH National Skills Academy for Construction welcomes its first female Apprentice in Highways Maintenance.

The Construction Industry is dominated by male workers and many large employers, but organisations such as CITB continue to try and attract more females into the industry. In recent years the construction sector with the support of CITB's National Skills Academy for Construction has invested considerable effort into promoting careers to under-represented groups, and recruitment of females into 'non-traditional' roles is an area of focus.

Youngsters urged to beat the post-exam rush

MORE than 175 apprenticeships are waiting to be snapped up by youngsters looking to start work after their exams this summer, it has been revealed.

School-leavers in Devon and Cornwall are being urged to avoid the post-exam rush and think now about securing an apprenticeship in their chosen career, and not wait until September.

Mark Boulting, managing director of Plymouth-based Skills Group, said: “Learners are in the driving seat right now. We have around 175 vacancies, it is the most we ever have had.”

More demand for South West Apprenticeships

Nearly half of the South West’s businesses plan to take on apprentices in the next five years according to a survey of employers across England. The study of 601 businesses, released to coincide with National Apprenticeship Week, also shows how Apprenticeships are growing in popularity, with half of all employers in the South West (50%) reporting that they are now more likely to offer an Apprenticeship than they were two years ago. A quarter of employers also reported that they would be taking on apprentices within the next 12 months indicating that more companies are seeing the advantages...

Landmark Information Group, the UK’s leading provider of land and property search information, with a local office in Exeter, has appointed eight apprentices to join its 430-strong workforce.

Following an extensive interview and selection process, the apprentices will all be undertaking a 12-month Landmark apprenticeship programme designed to equip them with the skills necessary to progress in the industry.
