Devon County Council shortlisted for UK Bus Award

Devon County Council has been shortlisted in this year’s UK Bus Awards.

The County Council is among four finalists in the running for Local Authority Bus Project of the Year Award for its continued work on "Integrating Transport" in Devon.

Despite the challenges posed by the rural landscape of Devon, the County Council has developed partnerships and invested in infrastructure and facilities in order to increase demand for bus travel, improve the reliability of services and information for passengers, as well as reduce barriers to travel.

Double awards for Independent Developer

Dorchester-based independent, family-owned developer C G Fry & Son toasts the success of two of their site managers receiving awards in the South West regional finals of the NHBC (National House Building Council) ‘Pride in the Job’ 2013 in the medium house builder category. Steve Walker was announced as the South West regional winner for The Duchy of Cornwall Poundbury development in Dorchester and colleague Adrian White has won the Seal of Excellence for Wyndham Place in Tisbury, Wiltshire; his first site for C G Fry.

Local theatre company returns home with awards

A young emerging theatre company made up of Exeter University graduates, Worklight Theatre, picked up not one, but two awards this summer when they took their show How to Start a Riot to Reading Fringe Festival.

They were awarded Best Production up against every show which featured in the two week festival, and Joe Sellman-Leava of the company was awarded Best Actor.

The show, developed with input from leading social psychologist, Professor Clifford Stott, having received five star reviews last year at Edinburgh Fringe continues to tour nationally.

Exeter is set to hold a new Awards evening this November that is set to be a little bit different from the rest. The Exeter Power 50 will celebrate the exploits, innovation and entrepreneurship of those individuals who have helped to power the reputation, economic, social and cultural success of the city.

South West represented by 20 companies and apprentices at The National Apprenticeship Awards 2013

Twenty companies and apprentices will represent the wealth of Apprenticeship talent across the South West after being short-listed for the regional heat of the prestigious National Apprenticeship Awards 2013.

Royal recognition for Devon’s top volunteers

Two of Devon’s top volunteer groups have received the Royal seal of approval this week as they were honoured with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

The Tavistock and District Outdoor Education Forum (TDOEF) and The Dawlish Gardens Trust were amongst 117 groups in the UK to receive the prestigious accolade, which is the highest award given to volunteer groups and has a status equivalent to the MBE.
