Trust wins national e-learning award

The Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust has beaten off competition from Sony Europe, Tesco Bank and Jurys Inn to win a national award for the success of its online learning management system (LMS) for staff.

The Trust and Kallidus, the LMS company it works with, struck gold at the e-Learning Awards in London.

They won the Best Learning Management System Implementation category at an awards ceremony attended by around 550 guests and experts from across the industry.

ZERO, a leading renewables company based in Sowton, Exeter, has been shortlisted in a national Government-led competition to help drive down energy bills and boost low carbon heat supplies in the UK.

Energy and Climate Change Secretary, Ed Davey, officially unveiled the 17 winning entries at the Association for Decentralised Energy Parliamentary Reception on Tuesday, 20 January. Nominations are open to highlight mental health heroes in Devon.

The Deputy Prime Minister is calling on people to nominate unsung mental health heroes in their local area as part of his campaign to raise awareness of mental health problems. Met Office scoops top awards for sustainability

The Met Office has been named one of the most sustainable public sector organisations in the UK.

The Exeter-based agency has won a platinum award for sustainability at the Public Sector Estate Management awards ceremony.

Met Office facilities manager, Chris Richards, also scooped the title Sustainability Manager of the Year.

Former Exeter Chiefs rugby player Chris Whitehead has been named as guest speaker at Teignbridge District Council’s Sports Personality of the Year Awards 2014.

Mr Whitehead, who retired from top flight rugby earlier this year and is using his playing expertise as coach at Western Counties league side Kingsbridge, has been unveiled as a key speaker at the sport gala event on Friday 28 November at the Langstone Cliff Hotel, Dawlish Warren.

Quickes' consistent quality leads to triple triumph

Following the World Cheese Awards on Friday - leading traditional clothbound Cheddar producer, Quickes, is celebrating winning three gold medals for their Mature, Extra Mature and Vintage Cheddars.

The latest achievements followed an intensive day’s judging that took place at Olympia London alongside 2014’s Good Food Show. There were more than 2,700 entries from all around the globe including cheese from Brazil and New Zealand. A panel of almost 250 cheese experts took part in the process of grading the cheeses and awarding medals accordingly.

Devon celebrates long serving foster carers

Foster carers from across Devon were celebrated for their exceptional service to Fostering Devon.

The annual Carer Celebration Awards took place at County Hall in Exeter where over 60 carers received a certificate of appreciation. Around 120 people (including many foster children) gathered to recognise the achievements of carers who have given between 5 and 30+ years of their lives to fostering.
