Devon's bus services could be back on the road and saved from planned Conservative cuts under new budget plans delivered to County Hall today (16th) by the County's Liberal Democrats.
In changes being put forward to Devon County Council when it meets on Thursday (19th) to decide the budget for the new financial year, the Lib Dems want to put back £1.7million to keep the county's buses on the road.
Fixing Devon's roads, tackling road drainage problems and weed spraying will also get a £1.5million boost says Cllr Alan Connett, leader of the county's...

People of Exeter, the cheese sandwich must be saved! Traditionally a British favourite, cheese sandwiches are being side-lined for fancy lunchtime alternatives, and Anchor® is on a mission to use its tasty cheddar to remind you just how good they can be.

Catching the bus is around 60%* cheaper than commuting to work by car despite falling pump prices, according to new research.
The study by Stagecoach, Britain's biggest bus and coach operator, found that bus users save an average of £1,200* a year – or £100 per month - by leaving their car in the driveway. The saving is enough to pay almost all of the average household’s gas and electricity costs for a year**.
Pump prices are at their lowest level for four years, but the Stagecoach survey of around 40 key commuter corridors in England, Scotland and Wales found that hopping...

Stagecoach South West has thanked bus passengers for their patience after bus services were heavily delayed yesterday following a series of accidents around the city which brought traffic to a standstill.
Traffic from Pinhoe was diverted along Hill Barton Road towards Middlemoor Roundabout, which quickly became gridlocked. Queues then formed towards Sandygate which was already busy following the closure of the M5. This meant that traffic along key arteries such as Heavitree Road and Topsham Road was already at a standstill by rush hour.
Devon County Council has today (26 January) launched a consultation on proposals to cut £1.7 million from its annual public transport budget over the next two financial years.
Councillors agreed this month to reduce its expenditure on bus services that require council funding to operate. People across the county are now being asked for their views on the proposed reductions to services which are being put forward.
It’s the first time in four years that the authority has proposed cutting bus services to meet a reduced budget, but the reductions are needed as part of the...
Council taxpayers in Devon are subsidising some bus trips by nearly £20 for every individual passenger, it has been revealed.
Now the county council is considering lowering caps on subsidies it will pay for bus journeys in Devon that would otherwise have been withdrawn by their commercial operators for being unprofitable.
The ceiling will depend on the type of service and bigger subsidies are proposed for public transport which provides the last link for communities with bigger towns and for services which people use to get to and from work.
Stagecoach South West confirmed today (22 December) that, for the duration of the upcoming A30 to Exeter Airport roadworks, it will be necessary for the 56 service to operate a special emergency timetable.

This closure will be in place from Monday 5th January for approximately 6 weeks.
Whilst journeys from Exeter to Exmouth will be unaffected, the journeys between Exmouth and Exeter will have to operate a diversion route, and a special...
