Sainsbury’s Pinhoe donates £5k to local charity

Sainsbury’s Pinhoe has marked a year of fundraising for their 2015 Charity of the Year, Rainbow Living, with the presentation of a cheque for £5,207.

Over the last 12 months Sainsbury’s Pinhoe has held many fundraising events for the local charity, including second hand book sales, car boot sales, and a curry & quiz night, along with several fun in-store events such as an Easter Bunny Hunt and Guess the Weight of the Heart Shaped bun to mark Valentine’s Day.

Insurance brokers complete 66 mile challenge

Two directors of a Devon insurance company have completed a big health and fitness challenge all in aid of charity.

Northcott Beaton Directors Nick Beaton and Keiron Northcott have been in training with David Lloyd fitness expert Simon Wilson for the last five months and have raised over £3,000 after completing the Exe Valley Endurance, a 66 mile walk, over the 11th and 12th June.

The money will go to the Exeter Foundation, the Exeter Chiefs charity, which supports a number of community charities including ELF, Dream Away and Force.

Hi-tech firm’s lift-off for air ambulance

A technology firm in Devon and Cornwall is helping to keep a publicly-funded life-saving air ambulance going. ITEC, based in Exeter, Plymouth and Redruth, is now providing IT support for Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust (CAAT) following a rigorous tendering process. The essential back-up ensures vital computer communications remain robust, enabling the charitable trust to raise the money to fund the helicopter’s 700 missions a year. Great grant news for Topsham Outdoor Pool

The volunteer committee which runs the outdoor swimming pool in Topsham was delighted to hear today that the pool will be receiving a grant of £25,000 from the Coastal Recycling Community Fund.

The grant will go a long way towards funding a new roof and solar heating for the community pool, which launched its campaign to raise £100,000 for much needed renovations at the beginning of this season.

Exeter School on a mission for charity

Exeter School pupils, parents, staff, friends and alumni are putting their best wheel forward to raise £50,000 for charity.

The team of nineteen riders supported by ten crew, two minibuses, and a van plan will cycle 904.8 miles and 46,678 vertical feet over ten days to raise money for the Children's Society and The Janine Di-Vincenzo Foundation.

Helmores cover Coast to Coast for charity

As part of their fundraising challenge for Children’s Hospice South West, Helmores Estate Agents are organising a cycling, walking and running journey from Ilfracombe to Exmouth.

Following the Tarka Trail, roads and the Exe Estuary cycle route members of the Helmores team, supported and sponsored by local businesses and the public, will be completing the 93 mile route in relays on Tuesday the 14th June. In total they hope to cover over 350 miles between them and raise plenty of money for a worthy cause.

Calling all cycling enthusiasts!

Keep your eyes peeled for a rally of cyclists who next month will cycle a grueling 240 miles starting in Guildford and finishing three days later at Saunton Sands beach in Braunton, North Devon. Each cyclist will be sponsored with the profits being donated to Surf Mobility, a charity that provides surfing experiences for children with physical disabilities.

Jim’s Journey: A 630-mile crusade against cancer

A former NHS communications manager from Mid Devon is preparing to walk 630 miles along the entire South West Coast Path this summer to raise money for two local charities that support cancer patients and their families.

Jim Bray left his job with the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust last month to take up an eight-week challenge entitled Jim’s Journey.

The 36-year-old will be raising money for Exeter-based charity FORCE and the Seamoor Unit, the new £2.5 million chemotherapy and day treatment centre at North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple.
