National Trust Christmas concert in Exeter Cathedral

The National Trust Exeter and District Centre are holding their annual Christmas Concert on Tuesday 9 December at Exeter Cathedral.

The centre plays a vital role promoting the work of the charity in the local area and raises money through all kinds of events for conservation and development projects. However, the Christmas concert, which dates back to the 1970s, is the principal event in the Centre’s calendar and has raised over £15,000 in the past 10 years.

Sarah, an acclaimed local florist who puts the fun into floristry with her relaxed chatty style, will be making a stylish Christmas door cone wreath for outdoors, indoors or it can be laid on a table. Staff and volunteers at Lydford Gorge are organising a Winter Fayre on Sunday 30 November between 11am and 3pm, to encourage shoppers to buy local produce and gifts for the forthcoming Christmas season.

Sarah Hortop, Retail Manager at Lydford Gorge, says: "It’s very exciting – I have worked at Lydford Gorge for 27 years and this is the first time we have held an event like this. East Devon District Council is once again supporting local shops over Christmas with a range of special car park deals for motorists, including a chance to win a ‘Golden Ticket’ offering three months’ free parking for up to 24 lucky motorists.

This year’s main concession will again offer a special price of all-day parking for £2 (after 10am) in all East Devon’s car parks during December. The offer includes all inland car parks and those in resorts on the Jurassic Coast.

As Christmas approaches, local charity Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau is helping people avoid a Christmas debt hangover by sharing their top ten tips for keeping festive finances in check.

Father and son farming partnership Mike and Tim Leach of Glebelands Farm, Upton Pyne celebrates 75 years of rearing top-quality turkeys and geese specifically for the Christmas market with the launch of a new website called ‘TastyBird’.

Free-range bronze turkeys and geese roam freely through the fields and are fed with natural cereals from the farm with no growth promoters or antibiotics.
