Appeal for Christmas volunteers

It might seem early for some, but Christmas is never far from the minds of the staff and volunteers at Knightshayes, the National Trust property on the out skirts of Tiverton; and this year the team are pondering a very unusual question – what to do about the jolly man himself? They are looking for volunteers to support extended opening hours over the winter and, in particular, help with events in the run-up to Christmas. Exeter City FC get festive

Thursday 11th December sees the Exeter City playing squad in Princesshay and available for signing the new club calendar and all your Christmas club merchandise.

Exeter City Football Club, the Express and Echo and Radio Exe, with the support of Land Securities, are combining to make a special Christmas evening event in Princesshay between 5.00 and 7.00 pm on Thursday December 11th.

Pinhoe Guides Christmas Shopping Extravaganza

Pinhoe Guides are holding a Christmas shopping evening on Friday 21 November.

Twenty tables will be selling various items including jewellery, craft items, Christmas decorations and cards for sale along with mulled wine, nibbles and mince pies.

There will be a raffle towards the end of the evening. All the stallholders have donated a prize, and we have a couple of other competitions during the evening.

All the money raised will go towards the Pinhoe Guides' trip to Switzerland in August 2015.

Vienna Festival Ballet’s The Nutcracker

Groups of lads, couples, and families packed in to Exeter’s Corn Exchange over the weekend to watch the Vienna Festival Ballet’s adaption of The Nutcracker. The dance troupe, made up of male and female dancers from across the globe, gave me my first taste of a ballet show.

Props are minimal if not void for ballet shows, so it was the shadow of ballet shoes from beneath the curtains and music from Tchaikovsky that got the crowds buzzing with anticipation ahead of the performance.

Rather than seeing other children go without toys in the festive season, research from Argos and Barnardo’s shows that 95 per cent of children would happily give up some of their Christmas presents, if it meant a disadvantaged child could enjoy a happier Christmas.
