During the busy run up to Christmas and the intensive shopping period, Devon and Cornwall Police are advising people to keep their Christmas purchases safe.

People are advised to protect their Christmas purchases by storing them in a safe, secure and private location that is not visible from outside, so burglars aren’t tempted to steal them.

Police seize substantial assets under Proceeds of Crime Act

Police Financial investigators in Cornwall have had a number of recent successes in seizing substantial financial assets under the proceeds of Crime Act.

In excess of £150,000 has been seized following three successful cases brought under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

The force will benefit from these successful seizures with a total of £29,000 being returned to the force for use in crime investigation or prevention.

Devon and Cornwall Police has welcomed a new assessment from Her Majesty’s Inspector of Constabulary which shows the Force is performing strongly and serving communities to a high level.

The HMIC’s first Police Effectiveness, Efficiency and Legitimacy, (PEEL), report is overwhelmingly positive and singles out the Force as performing well in terms of reducing crime, achieving efficiency savings and operating with integrity.

Police appeal after woman followed home

Police are appealing for information after a man tried to enter a property in Newton Abbot last night after following a young woman from her car.

The victim had parked her car in Dyrons car park, Newton Abbot just after 7pm when she became aware of a man following her.

The woman went inside a property in nearby Ashburton Road but the suspect attempted to follow her inside before fleeing.

He is described as a white man, around 6ft tall and of slim build. He was wearing a baseball cap, dark jacket with a hood and dark trousers. He also had facial stubble.

Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Hogg has today (Thursday 20 November) published the findings of a review, undertaken by his office, into Devon and Cornwall’s Police 101 non-emergency service.

The main findings of the report are:

  • Calls are answered promptly at the switchboard and within times that are consistent with other forces, or equivalent non-emergency contact services;
  • However, the average waiting time to speak with someone that can handle the callers query is over six minutes;

Devon and Cornwall’s Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Hogg is taking a national lead in the battle to cut alcohol related crime and harm, which is estimated to cost the country £11 billion annually. Zephyr, the south west’s regional organised crime unit, has made arrests in Scotland as part of its ongoing probe into courier fraud.

Detectives from Zephyr were joined by officers from Police Scotland to execute search warrants on properties in the Castlemilk and Crosshill areas of the city of Glasgow.

More than 1,000 people across Devon and Cornwall have taken part in a consultation process which allows communities to decide how low-level criminals may be punished in the future. Vandals destroy Crediton war memorial wreaths

Police are appealing for witnesses following an act of vandalism on the war memorial in Crediton.

Police were called at 1.15am on Monday 10 November after a member of the public witnessed two youths setting fire to the wreaths placed at the war memorial.

The two suspects are described as aged around 14-15, one male and one female, both wearing hooded tops and were seen running from scene towards the park behind the memorial.
