Crime in Devon and Cornwall falls by almost 4% in a year

Recorded crime in Devon and Cornwall has fallen by almost 4% over the last year according to statistics published today (16 October). Overall crime for the 12 months to September 2014 fell by 3.9%, a drop of 3,336 crimes, compared to the same period in 2012/13. Victim-based crime, a key performance measure for the Police and Crime Commissioner, is down by 5.3% or 3,297 offences. The Force has seen significant reductions in domestic burglary (10.1% or 331 crimes) and vehicle offences (15.6% or 940 crimes). Tony Hogg to meet prospective MPs

Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Hogg has invited all those planning to stand in next year’s general election to a briefing where he will outline strategic policing matters across the peninsula.

The sessions, held in Bodmin and Launceston, will give Parliamentary candidates and existing MPs the opportunity to meet Mr Hogg to hear about the current and future challenges faced by the police service and the actions being taken to deliver his Police and Crime Plan.

Police appeal following spate of burglaries

Police in Mid Devon are appealing for information following a number of house burglaries which may be connected. The first occurred sometime between Tuesday 30 September and Thursday 2 October at a property in Bramford Speke.

A garage at the property was entered and a ‘Karakoram’ mountain bike valued at £900 was stolen. Sometime on Tuesday 8 October a property at Three Horse Shoes, Cowley near Exeter was entered via an insecure front door whilst the occupant was in the rear garden.

Burglars steal £700 worth of dog food

Police are appealing for witnesses after burglars escaped with almost £700 worth of dog food from a store in Exeter. The offenders forced a rear door to break into Parr’s Farm Country Store at Matford sometime between 8.30pm on 29 September and 8.30am the next day. They stole 40 bags of dried dog food, valued at £695 and in distinctive green and white plastic bags containing the letters CJS in large print. The haul included 30 15kg bags of CJS adult champ dog food and 10 15kg bags of CJS mixed dog food. Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen any suspicious vehicles or individuals...

Fugitive convicted of violent assault in an Exeter bar arrested in Spain

An Exeter fugitive has been arrested in Spain and returned to prison following a lengthy investigation to locate him. Scott Kelly, 33, was convicted of a violent assault in March 2005 after stabbing a man in the back during a dispute in a bar in Exeter. He was sentenced to seven years in prison with an extended five year licence. Kelly was released in October 2013 but he failed to abide by the conditions of his licence and fled to Spain. Low burglary risk in Exeter

Home-owners in Exeter will be pleased to learn that their risk of being burgled is one of the lowest in the country.

In a study commissioned by The Safe Shop, released yesterday, the city was ranked fourth of 83 cities included in the nationwide 'Burglary Risk Score' table making them one of the least at risk in the country.

Chief Constable to face public questions

Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Hogg will relay public questions to the Chief Constable at a ‘new look’ performance and accountability meeting this week. Police are appealing for information following a burglary at a business premises in Woodbury Salterton. The incident occurred sometime overnight between Wednesday 20 August and Thursday 21 August at the premises of Raceworld, located at Greendale Business Park, in Woodbury Salterton.
