Show visitors name favourite farming and food businesses

Visitors to this year’s Devon County Show have named the local farming and food and drink businesses that they love. A survey carried out by rural solicitors Stephens Scown LLP at the show asked 480 visitors about their favourite food and drink brand, farm shop and farm attraction, as well as asking what people enjoyed most about the region. The survey forms part of the firm’s Love Where You Live campaign, which celebrates and showcases the best things about the South West. Elegant affair for Energy Hair birthday celebration

Guests gathered in all their finery to help Energy Hair owner, Nathan Plumridge, and his talented team at the Topsham salon, celebrate 18 successful years in business.

Having launched in 1997 with his late Father, Nathan reminisced on how the times had changed in terms of hair fashion, and recounted some funny stories from the past.

Held on the lawn at Darts Farm in glorious sunshine, the event was an ultra-swish afternoon of high fashion, glasses of fizz, mellow music and a sumptuous afternoon tea, including a rather impressive array of cakes.

Get the kettle on for Hospiscare

Help allow people to die and live with dignity by supporting the Hospiscare Coffee Morning urged broadcaster Judi Spiers.

Judi was speaking at the official launch of the local charity’s latest campaign to raise funds to help 2,200 terminally ill patients who are cared for by Hospiscare across Exeter, East and Mid Devon.

“The hospice movement is an incredible national organisation and it allows people to die with dignity and live with dignity,” said Judi. “Keep up the fantastic work Hospiscare.”

Darts Farm generates 1/3 of own energy

Award-winning Devon Farm shop Darts Farm is nationally renowned for sourcing first-rate local produce, so it’s no surprise that the businesses has kicked off 2015 by generating 1/3 of its own energy onsite too.

Darts Farm already had a solar ‘tracker’ and a 300-panel roof-mounted system, which was installed in 2011, but this new move has added another 326 panels, resulting in a total of 170 kWp of solar PV.

South West foodies voted in their thousands for their regional favourites and on Monday night the winners were crowned at a fabulous ceremony.

Yeo Valley’s quirky headquarters in Blagdon, Somerset, played host to the cream of the South West’s food and drink industry, coming together for the Food Reader Awards presentation and dinner.

Over 9,000 Food Magazine and Food Insider’s Guide readers cast 40,000 votes for 150 businesses in the fourth year of the awards.

Tesla Motors brings supercharging to Exeter

Tesla Motors, manufacturer of the award-winning Model S electric saloon, has expanded its Supercharger network with the opening of a Supercharger station in Exeter.

Conveniently located off junction 30 of the M5, the Exeter Supercharger will be an integral component of UK routes and, along with the Bristol Supercharger, allows Model S owners to travel to and around the South West for free with Supercharger-enabled Model S.

Exeter is the latest location to join the world’s largest fast-charging network.
