Hospiscare talks on dying and grief

Hospiscare, the local charity, which runs Exeter’s hospice will be giving talks this month at the University of Exeter about dying and grief.

Everybody is welcome to attend the talk, from professionals working in these areas, to members of the public interested in finding out more.

Hospiscare’s education team leader David Rainbow will be giving the talks. The first talk on Monday 15 June, 2pm-4pm, at Reed Hall, is entitled: Why is it so difficult to talk about death and dying?

Police name two found dead in East Devon

Two people have been named following the discovery of two bodies at a home in Axminster on Sunday (10 May).

They have been named as Jane McCartney aged 59 from the Dalwood area of East Devon, and Graham McCartney aged 63 from Honiton.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the tragic deaths of this couple, but are not looking for any other persons in relation to the incident.

Family members have been made aware of their deaths and are being supported by specially trained police family liaison officers.

Man and woman found dead at Devon home

Police are investigating the death of an elderly man and woman in Paignton.

Officers were called to a property in Freshwater Drive following concern for the occupants at 9.45pm on Wednesday 11 March.

Officers entered the property and discovered an elderly man and a woman deceased.

The deaths are being treated as unexplained at this time and the investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.

The next of kin and Coroner have been informed.

The fire service attended the property as a precaution and found no signs of a gas leak or carbon monoxide...

Tributes paid to boy killed in crash

Dozens of floral tributes have been laid at the scene of an accident in which a 10-year-old Devon boy died.

The side of a house has become a temporary memorial to Samuel Crocker

One of the tributes read: "To dear Samuel. We are all missing you and are devastated that your life was ended early. We hope you are OK and we will never forget you. From Tristan".

A resident, who asked not to be named, said Samuel was a popular boy and that the whole community was in shock.

Body discovered on Tarka Trail

Police were contacted at around 4pm yesterday (Monday 23 February) following concerns raised by a member of the public of the welfare of a man on the Tarka Trail near Barnstaple.

Ambulance were unable to reach the man due to the location, air ambulance and police attended the scene and the man was transferred to North Devon District Hospital by helicopter where he was pronounced dead.

The death is currently being treated as not suspicious.

Woman dies in M5 collision

Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision on the M5 northbound near Cullompton in which a woman died.

Police and other emergency services were called to the scene of the fatal collision involving a car and a lorry just after 12.10pm on Tuesday 27 January.

The collision involving a heavy goods vehicle and a silver Vauxhall Omega happened about one mile before junction 28, Cullompton.

The car driver, a 57-year-old woman from Tiverton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male car passenger was not injured.

Police appeal for help to identify body

Police in Exeter are appealing for information to help identify a woman whose body was found in Topsham earlier today (Friday 2 January).

Police were called at around noon to the dock area near to St Margaret’s Church on Ferry Road, in Topsham, following the discovery of a woman’s body.

It is believed that the woman had been in the water for sometime but the death is being treated as unexplained.

The woman is described as being, approximately 60-75 years of age white, approximately 5’4” in height and medium to large build with blue/hazel eyes.

Teenager dies after falling from ladder

Police and the Health and Safety Executive are carrying out an investigation into the death of a teenager in Newton Abbot.

Officers were called at 1pm on Thursday 4 December after reports a 17-year-old boy had fallen from a ladder in Abbotskerswell.

The teenager, from the South Devon area, was taken by air ambulance to Derriford Hospital with serious head and back injuries and passed away in hospital on Friday 5 December.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.
