The latest competition for the gents at Exeter Golf and Country Club was the Club Championships. Over 140 players competed in the Nett trophy, which was won by Roy James with a fine nett 63. Low scoring was the order of the day with 10 players beating the par of 69.

Exeter Golf and Country Club win over East Devon, Tiverton and Woodbury in latest round of the Exe League.
It was Exeter’s turn to host the second leg of the round robin format of teams including East Devon, Woodbury park and Tiverton. With 3 foursomes pairs and 3 Fourball betterball pairs, and all scores to count, no team can afford a slip up. On a bright but breezy day, Exeter Golf and Country Club stormed to a comfortable victory by beating East Devon by 23 points. A full field of 36 teams took part in the 7thAnnual Ladies Pro-Am at Exeter Golf & Country Club.
With the course in magnificent condition, and most of the field playing in dry conditions, good scoring was the order of the day as the teams battled for a fantastic prize table.
In the Individual professionals competition, Richard O’Hanlon, who is now based at St Kew, his third Cornish club following Lanhydrock and The Point at Polzeath, won the Exeter Ladies pro-am with a round of three-under-par 66.

Saturday 3 May saw 90 competitors battle in the annual 36 hole marathon of the Directors Cup, a Devon County Golf Union Order of Merit event.
The weather was kind with very little wind and mainly sunshine which allowed for some good scoring, even though the course was playing very long.
With the first match off at 6.45am, the pace was set early with Sam Dunn (Teignmouth) returning a 2 over par 71, to lead the morning scorers for a while until Ryan Wheeler (Stover) returned a level par 69 and Adam Bridgewater (Tavistock) opened up with a one over 70.
Wednesday saw the Captain take a team to Bigbury for the away leg of the Annual Lloyd Rowett match. Bigbury was in excellent condition, and on a sunny, but tough day with a cold easterly wind, all 6 of the matches were very close.
Captain, Ray Banfield, and his partner Neil Woolfrey, gained a half from the top match. Vice-Captain, John Fairman and David Inglis lost 2 down in a close match. This past weekend saw the gents section compete in a Fourball Betterball competition.
Low scoring was the order of the day with 76 pairs playing.
Alistair Ross & Josh Money were the winners with 45 points. Runners Up were Colin Wayman & Cliff Nightingale a solitary point behind on 44 points. George Robinson & Alex Boulton were beaten into third place on the back 9. 30 twos were scored worth £8.80 each

Exeter Golf and Country Club is celebrating record new member numbers for the first 6 months of the club’s financial year.
New member numbers from April to October this year are 32% up on the same period in 2011 and 59% up on 2010.
Over the past three years, Exeter Golf and Country Club has invested in its facilities, training and marketing and there has been a direct correlation in the new member results. Since 2008, the number of new members has increased by an impressive 72%.
