Family pay tribute to man killed in collision

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a fatal road traffic collision on the B3180 near Daisy Mount, Ottery St Mary on Monday 24 November 24.

The incident happened shortly before 10pm on Monday when a blue Ford Mondeo car was involved in a collision with a male pedestrian outside of the West Hill Nursery.

The pedestrian, who died at the scene following the collision, has been named by police as Robert James Mullen, 42, from West Hill near Ottery St Mary.

His family has paid tribute to him, saying: "Robert tragically passed away after being involved...

Ambitious plans to revolutionise care services in Exeter have received £1.5 million funding from Government.

Record number of flood defence repairs in Devon

After the exceptional rainfall and storms of last winter, the Environment Agency has completed a record number of repairs to flood and coastal defences across Devon and Cornwall and is urging communities to make sure they are ready if flooding happens this year.

Seven inspiring social action projects across the UK have been awarded £700,000 to support unpaid family carers, including the Devon Carer’s Scheme - managed by Westbank Community Health. Devon and Cornwall Police has welcomed a new assessment from Her Majesty’s Inspector of Constabulary which shows the Force is performing strongly and serving communities to a high level.

The HMIC’s first Police Effectiveness, Efficiency and Legitimacy, (PEEL), report is overwhelmingly positive and singles out the Force as performing well in terms of reducing crime, achieving efficiency savings and operating with integrity.

University of Exeter researchers have played a crucial role in creating a comprehensive new report indicating that the global risk from extreme weather is set to intensify.

Sidmouth trees to be cut back for public safety

Work aimed at improving the safety of walkers in the Byes in Sidmouth starts on Monday 8 December.

A row of Poplar trees in Sidmouth are to be cut back by tree surgeons for the safety of the public.

The six large trees at the end of Water Lane have been shedding heavy branches onto the footpath at frequent intervals during the year.

The trees have been inspected by an East Devon District Council Tree Officer, who has recommended that they should be reduced to around 15 metres (45 to 50 feet).
