Devon County Council is urging people across the county and particularly in the south west of Devon and Dartmoor to prepare for disruption on the county’s roads caused by high winds, surface flooding and debris today (Friday 12 October) and over the weekend.

There could be a total of up to 40mm of rainfall on Friday and Saturday (12 – 13 October) in southwest Devon and up to 14mm on the south and southwest facing slopes of Dartmoor. Closure of Lower Otter footpaths extended

The closure of the Lower Otter footpaths between Otterton and Budleigh Salterton will be extended for at least the next eight weeks to enable the restoration of the popular riverside path.

Although Devon County Council has put a formal six-month closure in place, every effort will be made to open the route earlier.

The Environment Agency is carrying out repairs to its collapsed culvert and the damaged bank and path, and is liaising closely with the County Council and with the landowners Clinton Devon Estates.

Cofton Holidays, the multi award-winning holiday park near Dawlish, South Devon, has been shortlisted in six categories across two major hospitality and tourism awards.

The family-run business is through to the final rounds of the Visit Devon Tourism Awards 2018 and the Herald Express South Devon Tourism and Hospitality Awards 2018.

Six tonnes of apples harvested in time for Killerton’s Apple Festival

Over 700 people have helped continue the tradition of hand-picking apples from the orchard at the National Trust’s Killerton estate, in time to be pressed at Killerton’s Apple Festival on 13 and 14 October. Thanks to hundreds of helping hands they were able to pick approximately 6 tonnes of apples, ready for the start of the cider and apple making season. On 4th October, the finalists from the Devon Schools Choir Competition, run by La La Choirs, took centre stage at Southernhay URC and competed for a chance to perform in Exeter Cathedral at the annual sell out concert, CLIC for Christmas. Three choirs had been shortlisted and the choirs at the final sang two songs each. Yet again, the standard was incredibly high, giving the judging panel a really hard time deciding between them. Stagecoach staff raise funds at World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event

Stagecoach South West has raised £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support, following a World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event at the Exeter depot.

Staff were able to enjoy a morning cuppa with colleagues, along with a tempting selection of homemade cakes and treats, all of which were available for a small donation to Macmillan.

HRH The Duke of Gloucester, officially opened Mole Avon Trading’s new £5.2M Country Store in Crediton, Devon on Tuesday 2nd October.

During his visit His Royal Highness met members of staff, company directors and key suppliers to the country store, most of whom are based in Crediton. Action packed official opening of new East Devon skate park

Now that construction of East Devon District Council’s brand new skate park at Phear Park in Exmouth is complete, the council and the skate park’s designers Maverick Industries Ltd, would like to invite skateboarders, as well as scooter and BMX riders, to a special opening ‘jam’ event during the autumn half term break on Friday 26 October, from 12pm to 4pm, to help celebrate the opening of this fun facility.

Devon is truly magnificent. At last night’s annual Food Drink Devon Awards the pinnacle of the county’s food and drink producers, hospitality businesses and speciality retailers celebrated in fantastic style at the Highbullen Hotel Golf & Country Club. The ceremony was hosted, for the fourth year running, by food and drink broadcaster Nigel Barden.
