Family donate £4,300 to Exeter’s Neonatal Unit

A family from Lewdown near Okehampton have raised over £4,300 for the Neonatal Unit (NNU) at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, as a thank you for the help and support they received from staff when their little boy was seriously ill.

Chris Back and Crystal Jordan spent 66 days on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with their son Jax who was born at 29 weeks, 11 weeks prematurely in December 2016. Patients on Bolham Ward at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital are set to benefit from a new mobile machine to measure lung function thanks to a £500 donation by the St Thomas Masonic Lodge.

The Lodge made the donation after being made aware of the efforts of Barbara and David Tilbury, who have been fundraising for the Bolham Ward Trust Fund over the last year in memory of their son Patrick who sadly passed away in 2016.

Devon Contract Waste supports life-saving service across Devon

Exeter-based waste management company Devon Contract Waste has donated £3500 to Devon Freewheelers, a life-saving charity providing voluntary out of hours transport for blood and medical supplies across Devon.

The donation could provide enough fuel to cover 49,000 miles of life-saving journeys around Devon or 14 sets of replacement tyres to maintain the road safety of the motorcycle fleet; both essential contributions to the charity’s running costs, which reach £150,000 per year.

Exeter Business Club members have once again put their hands in their pockets to help city charities by making their annual charity donation to the Exeter Foundation. Trustee Keiron Northcott accepted the cheque for £1,610 on behalf of the Foundation from co-chairs Alison Jobson and Emma Steele plus members of the club at their Friday meeting. Family thanks RD&E Neonatal Unit with £4,000 donation

The Thomas family, from Tiverton, have raised over £4,000 for the Neonatal Unit (NNU) at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital as a thank you for their care their son received there.

Three year old Maximus spent 12 ½ weeks on NNU in September 2013 after being born prematurely at 27 weeks.

During this time, Maximus spent time on every area of NNU, from intensive care to low dependency, and was cared for by Dr Bartle and his experienced team. He was allowed home the day before his due date and has been monitored by the team for just over two years after discharge.

Every Spring and Autumn Freemasons from all around Devon meet to support local organisations and charities who are require financial assistance, among which are Schools, Scouts, Youth Centres and locally based charities including Hospices, Hospital Services and Cancer Charities.

Charity donates £10,000 to support Exeter medical students’ training

A charity has made a generous donation of £10,000 to support Medicine students at the University of Exeter Medical School in essential specialised training.

The Hospital Saturday Fund’s donation will benefit 20 students in their fifth and final year as they go on placements known as electives. The six to eight week placements are mandatory and self-funded. Students work in specialised areas, often overseas, to get an insight into an area of medicine that interests them and may shape their career.
