Cathedral to host Waterloo anniversary concert

To mark the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo, a special concert will take place in the grand surroundings of Exeter Cathedral on Saturday 20 June.

Starting at 7.30pm the evening is set to raise funds for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, the National Charity of the British Army and will bring to a close events in the City to mark Armed Forces Day.

Exeter Cathedral appoints second female canon

Exeter Cathedral has appointed its second female canon in just a few months.

The Revd Victoria Thurtell will join the Cathedral this summer as Canon Precentor, looking after the Cathedral’s liturgy and music, and its choristers. All 36 boy and girl choristers attend the Cathedral School next door, and Vicky will also be priest to the school.

Canon Anna Norman Walker was appointed as the first full time women canon to the Cathedral in 900 years before Christmas. Vicky’s appointment means that the Cathedral now has two male and two female full time canons for the first time...

Roman baths project details revealed

Exeter Cathedral has today published detailed drawings of its plans to excavate and reveal the remains of the city’s Roman Bath House.

The Dean of the Cathedral, the Very Revd Jonathan Draper, said the scheme had been under wraps while plans were talked through with English Heritage and a bid prepared for Heritage Lottery funding, but now the details of the proposed centre could be shown for the first time.

First full-time woman canon for Cathedral

Canon Anna Norman-Walker has become the first woman to work full-time as a Canon at Exeter Cathedral in its 900 year history.

Anna said she was excited about the opportunity to “strengthen the Cathedral’s presence in the heart of the city”.

She was previously a priest in mid Devon before becoming diocesan missioner – a role that saw her encouraging churches small and large around Devon, and gave her a part time role at the Cathedral.

Exeter Cathedral is the stunning backdrop to Exeter College's Festival of Carols being held on Friday December 5th in aid of the college's charity of the year, YoungMinds. The free event, open to the public, will open its doors from 6.30pm to anyone wishing to join the college's staff, students and family members to celebrate the festive season, with the event starting at 7.30pm.
