Exeter City Council seeks views on sex establishment policy

People can have their say on Exeter City Council's Sex Establishment Policy.

The current interim policy limits the number of Sex Entertainment Venues (SEVs) to one in the City Centre and zero elsewhere. It also restricts the number of sex shops to two.

The Council would like to consult Exeter residents and other interested parties on whether this is appropriate to have a policy and if so, what sort of controls and conditions should be included to ensure that the premises are situated in appropriate locations and properly managed.

Social housing tenants needed for discussion group on energy use

Social housing tenants in Exeter are wanted to take part in discussion groups to talk about energy use in the home.

The University of Bath is carrying out the project in partnership with Exeter City Council to see how energy is used in homes across Exeter.

Discussion groups are being held in the city centre from Tuesday 2 April until Friday 5 April. Those taking part will receive £10 towards travel expenses, and will also be entered into a prize draw to win £50 in supermarket vouchers. Exeter's next Lord Mayor is announced

The Exeter Daily can reveal that the next Lord Mayor of Exeter will be Labour councillor for Polsloe, Rachel Lyons. Councillor Lyons will take over from present incumbent, Councillor Rob Newby in May.

Ms Lyons, a previous Deputy Lord Mayor, was re-elected to the Polsloe seat in 2012 having previously held the seat for two terms of office between 2000 and 2008. Exeter rally against the 'Bedroom Tax'

A protest rally took place in Exeter's Bedford Square today against Government plans for what has been dubbed by its opponents as the ‘Bedroom Tax’. The protest was one of hundreds taking place all over the UK urging the Coalition Government to rethink its controversial plans, which are expected to affect 660,000 people when it comes into effect next month. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall supports energy-switching scheme, Exeter Together

People only have a few days left to take advantage of Exeter's energy-switching scheme, Exeter Together, and make savings on their energy bills. The scheme closes at midnight on Sunday 17 March.

Exeter City Council wants to create high quality employment in Exeter and is looking at drawing up a five-year Knowledge Economy Strategy.

Hundreds climb on board ‘Bill’ to see if they could save £££s off their utility bill

Exeter Together’s double decker promotional bus, nicknamed Bill, has been a big hit as hundreds of people climbed on-board during its tour of Exeter to find out whether they could save money on their houshold utility bill by joining the innovative collective switching initiatve.

Exeter Together has been brought to the region by Exeter City Council and the scheme, launched on Monday 18 February, hopes to help people save at least £100 off their heating bills by people coming together to switch utility providers.

Special Event marks National Apprenticeship Week 11-15 March

Devon County Council is calling on small and medium-sized businesses to think about the benefits of offering an apprenticeship.

The Council is organising a special event at Sandy Park in Exeter on Tuesday 12 March to bring young people and potential employers together.

Businesses are being encouraged to sign up to the event to see how they could get involved and maybe find a suitable apprentice for their organisation.

Specialists from Devon and Cornwall Police have worked closely with Exeter City Council to help secure a prestigious Park Mark award for its John Lewis car park, Exeter.

The John Lewis car park, formerly King William Street car park, reopened for business during September 2012 and has been successful in achieving the Park Mark Safer Parking accreditation for the first time. Work begins on solar panels for City Council buildings

Work has begun on the installation of solar panels on Exeter City Council's buildings.

The 800 panels, which are currently being put up on two roofs of the Civic Centre and three other sites across Exeter, will have a capacity of about 200 kilowatts – that’s the equivalent of 50 standard domestic solar photovoltaic systems!
