Exeter City come up short at home

Match report: Exeter City 1 Hartlepool 2

Exeter City’s League 2 winning run came to an end as Hartlepool United earned a 2-1 win at St James Park.

All of the goals came in the second half – Michael Woods’ first United goal handed the away side the lead three minutes into the second period, before Charlie Wyke doubled their advantage.

Christian Ribeiro grabbed a consolation for City, but there would be no points for the home side today.

Exeter City make it 4 in a row!

Match Report: Dagenham 1 Exeter City 2

For the fourth time on the bounce, Exeter City secured a 2-1 victory – and this time it was Dagenham & Redbridge that were the vanquished side.

City were trailing to a goal by former Grecian Jamie Cureton at the break following a disappointing first half.

But Exeter, galvanised and dominant in the second period, fought back well and got on terms when Alex Nicholls was felled in the area and Jimmy Keohane netted from the penalty spot.

The turnaround was complete deep into stoppage time when Arron Davies rose highest...

City make it three in a row

Match report: Exeter City 2 Bury 1

Exeter City overturned league leaders Bury at St James Park, recording a 2-1 win to make it three wins on the bounce.

An early Matt Grimes free-kick had Exeter off to a flyer, but Tom Soares’ rocket after an hour had the teams all square.

But a close-range effort from substitute Jimmy Keohane with less than ten minutes remaining was the difference at the end, giving Exeter City’s hard-working side a well-earned three points at the Park.

Craig Woodman’s injury kept him out of the matchday squad for the meeting with Bury,...

Away win for City

Match report: Tranmere 1 Exeter City 2

Exeter City made it two wins from two with a 2-1 win away at Prenton Park against Tranmere Rovers.

Graham Cummins’ third goal in as many games got Exeter up and running in the early stages, and only a late flag denied him a second in the opening stages.

Danny Holmes netted a deflected effort in the first period, but it was up to defender Jordan Moore-Taylor to power in a headed winner midway through the second half.

Paul Tisdale made just one change to his side for the Grecians visit to Tranmere Rovers following a...

Exeter City grab a 2 for Tuesday!

Match report: Cambridge 1 Exeter City 2

Alex Nicholls’ first goal in almost two years was the match-winner for Exeter City away at Cambridge United on Tuesday evening.

The game took a disappointing turn at the start for Exeter when Ryan Bird was on hand to stroke in from close range as the ball ricocheted around the six-yard box, but a second goal in two games from Graham Cummins got the Grecians level less than ten minutes later.

City twice came within the width of the woodwork from taking the lead – David Wheeler and Matt Grimes both striking the upright – but...

Exeter City still looking for a win

Match report: Exeter City 1 Oxford 1

Exeter City’s search for a first win of the season continues as they were held to a 1-1 draw at St James Park by Oxford United.

The Grecians got off to the best possible start when Graham Cummins won and converted a penalty in the first few minutes, but the U’s hit back through Callum O’Dowda, who put Joe Riley’s cross beyond stopper Christy Pym.

Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale made one change to the side which were beaten 2-1 by Mansfield Town at St James Park last time out, as Matt Grimes came into the starting eleven in place...

Too little, too late for City

The Grecians fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Mansfield Town on Saturday in Sky Bet League 2.

First-half goals from Rakish Bingham – making his debut for Mansfield – and Fergus Bell gave the Stags a two-goal advantage at the interval.

Matt Grimes, on from the bench, netted a stunning free-kick for a reinvigorated City side after the break.

But the home side couldn’t force that equaliser and ultimately were downed 2-1 by their guests from Nottinghamshire.

With players returning to fitness, Christian Ribeiro and Alex Nicholls went straight into the starting XI...

Northampton 1 Exeter 0

Exeter City lost 1-0 to a late Marc Richards goal at the hands of Northampton Town at Sixfields.

An open game saw chances at both ends, with City looking particularly potent in the first half but unable to beat Matt Duke in the Cobblers net.

Christy Pym was called upon on several occasions after the break and made a string of good saves as the hosts pushed forward, and City looked to have secured at least a point from the visit.

But the Exeter defence was breached a minute from the end when Richards volleyed in acrobatically to give Northampton all three points and...

Match preview: Northampton Town v Exeter City

The Grecians visit Northampton Town this weekend still on the lookout for the first win of the 2014/15 campaign.

Exeter’s two away days so far this campaign – at Plymouth Argyle and Burton Albion within four days – both ended in defeat.

Northampton meanwhile have collected four points from their first two games at Sixfields – Kaid Mohamed’s goal gave the Cobblers an opening-day win against Mansfield, and a late Emile Sinclair header saved a point against recently-relegated Shrewsbury a week ago. Lawson D’Ath, formerly on loan at St James Park, scored two in a 3-2 win at...
