Exeter City's playoff push starts at 1:00 today!

Match preview: Exeter City v Newport County AFC

The latest huge game in the Grecians’ run-in to the 2014/15 campaign comes against Newport County AFC at St James Park on Easter Monday.

With the Exiles sitting four points ahead of City in the final furlong, a home win would go some way towards fulfilling their play-offs ambitions. But Newport, who can boast away results including wins at Burton, Wycombe and Bury this season, have their own ambitions to look at.

New boss Jimmy Dack has the Welsh side on a run of five games without defeat – however Exeter are on an...

Exeter City edge closer to playoffs

Match report: Luton 2 Exeter City 3

Exeter City came from two goals down to grab a stoppage-time winner as they overcame Luton Town 3-2 at Kenilworth Road.

Goals by Luke Guttridge and Mark Cullen had the Hatters in the ascendancy before half-time as they looked to put paid to a poor run of results.

However the fightback was instigated early after the break as Ryan Harley volleyed in his third of the season.

Jordan Moore-Taylor then levelled from close-range to tie things up going into the last 15 minutes.

And the turnaround was complete with just...

Exeter City settle for a draw, again

Match report: Exeter City 1 Morecambe 1

Alex Nicholls cancelled out Aaron McGowan’s opener as the Grecians played out a 1-1 draw with Morecambe at St James Park.

The Shrimps’ goal came against the run of play after a quarter of an hour, and Nicholls’ equaliser – controlling a Tom Nichols cross and firing in – came ten minutes from time.

However Nichols received his marching orders in the game’s last action after an exasperated swing of his foot caught an opposition player.

Four changes were made to the Exeter City line-up that saw off Cheltenham at Whaddon...

Exeter City win at Cheltenham

Match report: Cheltenham 1 Exeter City 2

Exeter City claimed a first ever win at Whaddon Road, with Tom Nichols and Graham Cummins striking in a 2-1 win for the Grecians against Cheltenham Town.

Nichols’ deft finish gave Exeter a midway through the first-half, and Cummins was alive to a goalkeeper spillage to firm up the scoreline a few minutes from time.

A late own-goal gave the Robins hope but ultimately City held out to claim the victory.

With Alex Nicholls missing completely through injury and Clinton Morrison only fit enough for the bench, David Wheeler...

Plenty of action but no goals

Match report: Exeter City 0 Stevenage 0

Neither Exeter City nor Stevenage were able to make a breakthrough in an hour and a half of play at St James Park, as the meeting ended 0-0.

Chances came and went at either end – and City substitute David Wheeler even hit the bar with a towering header midway through the second period for the hosts.

But ultimately the game ended without either goalkeeper needing to make a visit to the back of the net on Tuesday evening.

City manager Paul Tisdale named an unchanged starting XI for the Grecians’ fixture after the weekend...

Exeter City sign midfielder Lee Holmes

Exeter City have today completed the signing of Lee Holmes on loan from Preston North End.

The 27-year-old, who was on loan with Portsmouth earlier this season, will be a Grecian until the end of the 2014/15 campaign.

Holmes began his career with six years as a pro at Derby County, just down the road from his hometown of Mansfield, and then spent a further four years on the books at Southampton. He moved to Deepdale in 2012.

The midfielder was an England youth international until Under-19 level, and has also represented Bradford, Walsall, Oxford and Swindon in...

Exeter City win in home thriller

Match report: Exeter City 3 Wimbledon 2

Exeter City reached the 50-point mark for the season with a thrilling 3-2 win over AFC Wimbledon.

In a game that had it all, Bayo Akinfenwa handed the visitors a very early lead with a fine finish just four minutes in, and despite plenty of efforts on target for City, the biggest incident of the remainder of the half was the dismissal of Wimbledon’s Dannie Bulman for a two-footed challenge on Connor Riley-Lowe.

Tom Nichols levelled after the interval with a composed finish into the corner, and the striker got a second of the...

Harley bags a brace!

Match report: Carlisle 1 Exeter City 3

Exeter City turned a terrific performance into three points on their longest away day of the season, triumphing 3-1 away to Carlisle United.

The Grecians took the lead initially through Ryan Harley, netting his first since returning to the club, shortly after Alex Nicholls’ effort had bounced back off the bar.

But the hosts were level before the break when speedster David Amoo worked space to dink in a cross from the right, allowing Steven Rigg to touch in an equaliser from six yards.

However a second for Harley before...

Exeter City will be hosting a supporters’ collection for Exeter Foodbank at two forthcoming home fixtures in March – and the club’s first-team squad made the first contributions to kick-start the campaign.

Tinned meats and sauces, long-life milk and juice, cereals, tea and coffee, biscuits and toiletries were amongst the items that the players brought along to lay the foundation for the collection.
