Exeter City welcome Bournemouth

Once again we will welcome Premier League opposition to St James Park as part of our pre-season fixture programme – this time it is the top-tier’s newest members, AFC Bournemouth, who will provide the opposition.

The Cherries were visibly flourishing when they visited the Park in the Capital One Cup in the early stages of last season – that was just the beginning of a terrific campaign for the Dorset club, who eventually lifted the Sky Bet Championship title.

Their pre-season schedule is still in its earlier stages, with just a single fixture played so far compared to...

The Exiles, a group of Exeter City supporters based away from Devon, came out as penalty shoot-out winners after a high-scoring draw in their annual friendly fixture against the locals in Ydrousa.

It is the eighth year that the Exiles have played a friendly game against Ydrousa, a town on the island of Andros, and each year it throws up an entertaining fixture with a competitive and cordial rivalry.

This time around, the travelling City fans were the winners – triumphing 4-3 on penalties, after drawing 8-8 at the final whistle.

A little short on numbers this year,...

City end on a high

Exeter City signed off the 2014/15 season with a 2-1 home victory against Dagenham & Redbridge, to secure a 10th-place finish in Sky Bet League 2.

All of the goals came in the second period, as Jimmy Keohane struck a beautiful opener before Tom Nichols was gifted a tap in for number 15 of the campaign.

Former Grecians striker Jamie Cureton – who was named as Daggers captain for the afternoon – halved the deficit in stoppage-time but it was City that claimed the win.

James Hamon was the first of the goalkeepers to be called into action as Jodi Jones slipped a...

Grecian's playoff hopes over

Match report: Hartlepool 2 Exeter City 1

Exeter City’s hopes of reaching the play-offs were finally ended on the penultimate weekend of the 2014/15 season, as the Hartlepool United were 2-1 victors at Victoria Park.

With scores elsewhere in the division going against Exeter, the result at Victoria Park was of little consequence in reality but it wasn’t through any lack of effort that the Grecians were unable to secure the right result.

Scott Fenwick had Pools ahead very briefly, only for Graham Cummins to level from a Liam Sercombe corner.

But the score was...

Exeter City lose in stoppage-time

Match report: Exeter City 0 Southend 1

Exeter City fell to a 1-0 defeat in stoppage-time at the hands of Southend United at St James Park.

A well-contested game saw Exeter have a lot of the chances but Daniel Bentley was to record his sixth straight shut-out.

Exeter looked like they were going to also keep their sheets clean – only for Michael Timlin to steal it in stoppage-time.

Jimmy Keohane, Clinton Morrison and David Wheeler all come in for a start in the attacking positions, and Scot Bennett jumped in at centre-half – totally four changes.

Exeter City come away empty handed

Match report: Wycombe 2 Exeter City 1

The Grecians fell a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wycombe Wanderers, who won it with the final kick of the match in the 12th minute of added time in the second half.

Sam Saunders had the Chairboys in the ascendancy after seven minutes, but after relentless Exeter pressure the equaliser finally came through Liam Sercombe with quarter of an hour remaining.

But after injuries had lengthened the game into an age of stoppage time, sub Fred Onyedinma was felled in the box to allow Paul Hayes to fire in from 12 yards with the final action...

Exeter City's unbeaten run ends at 8

Match report: Shrewsbury 4 Exeter City 0

Exeter City’s eight-game unbeaten run came to an end at Greenhous Meadow at the hands of a rampant Shrewsbury Town side, who won 4-0 to keep pressure on leaders Burton Albion at the summit of Sky Bet League 2.

Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro had the home side in the ascendency at half-time, and his second was Shrewsbury’s third after James Collins had doubled the lead.

Then sub Tyrone Barnett hammered in a thunderous effort from just inside the area to seal the win in stoppage time.

The pre-match team news saw Scot Bennett...

City's unbeaten run continues

Match report: Exeter City 2 Newport 0

The Grecians made it two from two over Easter with a 2-0 win against Newport County AFC at St James Park.

The game was deadlocked at the interval, with Yan Klukowski hitting the outside of the post in first-half stoppage time.

But the lead was opened by sub David Wheeler after the interval after being slipped in by Clinton Morrison, and then when Wheeler was felled in the area by Ismail Yakubu – who was sent off for the challenge – Ryan Harley doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the final minute.
