City lose Devon derby

Plymouth Argyle were 3-1 victors in the Devon Derby at St James Park, with their performance capped by a Reuben Reid hat-trick.

A to-and-fro start in front of a near-full house at St James Park was edged in Plymouth’s favour when Argyle top scorer Reuben Reid was the benefactor of a miscued Bobby Reid touch. Reid should have scored again moments late when he had time to turn and shoot, but was punished for not doing so when Arron Davies made it to Jordan Moore-Taylor’s cross in what was the last meaningful action of the first half, and the first time Plymouth had conceded in their...

Police are getting ready for the big West Country derby between Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle tomorrow (Saturday 21 February) at 1pm.

The all-ticket match is being played at St James Park and looks to be a bumper crowd.

There will be extra police support in attendance to help ensure it all goes smoothly.

Superintendent Craig Downham said: “Whilst our officers will be visible as part of our policing of the match, this is not cause for alarm. We are operating a low-key approach to policing this game and as ever we are looking at engaging with all the public, whether...

Tis: "We could have won".

Following a 1-0 loss to Portsmouth at Fratton Park, Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale felt that the result could have just as easily been reversed based on the balance of play.

An exciting, open and entertaining game of football saw presentable chances at both ends – Josh Passley and James Dunne struck the woodwork either side of half-time for the hosts, and Arron Davies saw an effort bounce off Paul Jones’ crossbar late in the game.

Jed Wallace had blazed a penalty over the bar midway through the second period when Matt Tubbs was brought down in the box by Christian Ribeiro...

Exeter City come back from 2-0 down

Match report: Exeter City 2 Cambridge 2

Exeter City came from two goals behind to force a 2-2 draw at home against Cambridge United.

The Grecians fell behind to a neat finish by Robbie Simpson just before the break, and the lead was extended soon after half-time when Craig Woodman touched a cross into his own net.

However the comeback was on when Tom Nichols netted his 11th of the season midway through the second period with a powerful strike across goal.

And then the scores were tied up with minutes to spare when David Wheeler rose highest to head in for...

Exeter City fight hard to secure a point

Match report: Bury 1 Exeter City 1

Exeter City and Bury shared the points with a 1-1 draw at Gigg Lane.

After seeing off some early pressure, the Grecians took the lead within the first quarter of an hour as an Alex Nicholls free-kick bounced back into play and was volleyed in by Arron Davies.

However it was former Exeter man Daniel Nardiello that levelled up the scores just before the break, heading in a cross at the far post.

City manager Paul Tisdale made two changes to the starting XI, as Graham Cummins and Christian Ribeiro were named as subs. Clinton...

Exeter City sign McCready

Midfielder signs for the Grecians

Exeter City have added midfielder Tom McCready to the ranks at St James Park on a contract until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old was previously with Morecambe on non-contract terms, and played 45 minutes from the bench against the Grecians during City’s 2-0 win at the Globe Arena in October.

Exeter City lose at home

Match report: Exeter City 1 Tranmere 2

Alex Nicholls’ third goal in as many games wasn’t enough to get anything for Exeter City from a meeting with Tranmere Rovers, as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at St James Park.

The scoring was opened for the visitors through Scunthorpe loanee Jennison Myrie-Williams, who turned in a header from the narrowest of angles just before the half-hour mark.

But the scores were level less than ten minutes later when Alex Nicholls won a free-kick just outside the area, and picked himself up to strike hard and low past the goalkeeper....

Exeter City settle for a draw

Match report: Oxford 2 Exeter City 2

Exeter City and Oxford United shared the spoils with a 2-2 draw at the Kassam Stadium in Sky Bet League 2.

The hosts had the better of the chances in the first period and striker Danny Hylton fired them into the lead early on, but City went into the break level as Arron Davies struck from outside the area.

It looked like the Grecians would travel back to Devon with all three points when Alex Nicholls applied the finishing touch on a set-piece, but U’s sub James Roberts struck minutes later in injury time to square things up again...

Exeter City come out on top

Match report: Mansfield 2 Exeter City 3

A topsy-turvy fixture at Field Mill saw Exeter City come out on top in a five-goal thriller with Mansfield Town – ultimately triumphing 3-2.

A breathtaking game saw action aplenty at either end of the field – it was Tom Nichols’ tenth goal of the season that opened the scoring in the first half.

However Mansfield got back ahead after the break as Billy Kee and Vadaine Oliver put the home side into the ascendency.

But the tide was turned back once again when Scot Bennett swept in, before David Wheeler won a penalty in...

Exeter City v Northampton match report

Exeter City fell to successive home defeats by suffering a 2-0 reverse at the hands of Northampton Town.

After Exeter saw plenty of chances come and go in the opening quarter of an hour, the scoring was opened at the other end by a close-range header from Marc Richards.

The scoring was completed just before the half-hour mark when former Bristol Rovers man John-Joe O’Toole was fed by ex-Exeter loanee Lawson D’Ath to hook in a second for the visitors.

Midfielder David Noble returned to the starting XI for the Grecians for the fixture – his inclusion was the only...
