An Exeter School pupil is looking to begin university life across the Atlantic this September. Matt Rutter, currently an Upper Sixth pupil has been offered a place to study economics at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania where he will also be able to develop his thriving tennis career as part of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) which saw both John Isner and Cameron Norrie (the current British number one) compete before joining the professional circuit.

Exeter School champions making a splash in the pool

Seven pupils from Exeter School competed for their respective swim clubs in the Devon Swimming Championships during January and February.

Emily Bishop competed in 10 events in the U14 category gaining four PBs with a very strong performance in the 50m freestyle placing her only a few milliseconds away from a regional time.

Hanna Sari also competed in the U14 category, gaining qualifying times in 12 events and achieving five PBs, while her sister Sara reached the finals in eight events in the U15 category also gaining third place in the 400m individual medley.

A new look for The New School

Pupils and staff at The New School are enjoying new and improved facilities following an extensive refurbishment over the summer holidays.

The New School community returned for the autumn term to find the surroundings at the co-educational prep school for children aged 3-7 had been revitalised.

Three sections of the roof have been replaced and the storm water drainage system has been updated ensuring pupils and staff are warm and dry.

Paralympian to coach competitive swimming squads

Exeter School is delighted to welcome Paralympian David Hill to coach competitive swimming squads this year.

David is a two-time Paralympian in swimming and triathlon and world and European medallist in swimming.

The British Champion was Team GB's youngest athlete at the Athens 2004 Paralympics and Top 10 Finisher in the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Paralympic Games.

Paralympian David said he felt privileged to add value to the coaching team at Exeter School and pass on his experience and knowledge to the next generation.

Alumni save Exeter photographer’s life

Two Exeter School alumni who are lifeguards at the David Lloyd Health Club in Exeter have saved the life of a local photographer, and are keen to spread the word about the importance of lifesaving training.

Alumni Archie Leather (2015-2020) and Alex Foster (2009-2019) resuscitated photographer Andrew Butler while on duty at the club. They received their lifesaving training while in the sixth form at Exeter School.

Exeter School welcomed guest of honour, alumnus and executive recruiter, Ikenna Iroche, to its annual Speech Day.

Speech Day was held on 23 September, and during the day, Ikenna gave inspiring talks to individual year groups on turning your dreams into goals, and diversity and inclusion, using his own experiences of integrating into Exeter School in the 1990s from Nigeria.

Free music lessons for Year 3 pupils at Exeter Junior School

A new scheme to offer free instrumental lessons is being offered to all Exeter Junior School pupils entering Year 3.

Starting in September 2021, this unique pilot scheme will enable pupils to start a string instrument through weekly lessons.
