Lifetime achievement award in double win for Exeter diabetes professor

A scientific career which has generated significant progress in understanding type 1 diabetes has won a University of Exeter professor two international accolades, including a lifetime achievement award.

Professor Noel Morgan was “delighted, humbled and surprised” to receive a lifetime achievement award by the Network of Pancreatic Organ Donors with Diabetes (nPOD) in California this month.

Exeter students have been celebrating LGBT+ History Month this month and are taking part in a competition to design the official LGBT+ History Month badge for 2025.

Dr John Martin has been appointed as the Chief Executive at the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.

John joined the Trust at the end of December last year as interim Chief Executive on secondment from the London Ambulance Service where he held the positions of Chief Paramedic Officer and Deputy Chief Executive.

City charity invites residents to camp in their gardens for local homeless people

An Exeter-based homelessness charity is inviting people to sleep out under the stars in April, to help raise money for its work with rough sleepers.

South West divorce hotspots revealed as new data shows dramatic drop in applications

The latest release from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows divorces plummeted in 2022, following the introduction of ‘no fault divorce’ in April that year. The data, which covers January – December 2022, shows that divorces dropped by 30% compared with the previous year – the lowest number since 1971.

In conjunction with these statistics, the latest figures from the 2021 Census have unveiled the regional divorce landscape. Torbay has the highest divorce rate (11.5%) in the South West and the eighth highest in the UK.
