No 10 adviser to help with Council’s Centres of Excellence

A member of the Prime Minister’s ‘champion’ group on Dementia Friendly Communities is to help and advise Devon County Council on how their new multi-million pound dementia care Centres of Excellence should be run, it has been announced.

Ian Sherriff and research colleagues from Plymouth University have been appointed by the Council to help make sure that their new Centres of Excellence not only provide first-rate care to people staying as residents, but also that they support the great many people living with dementia in their surrounding communities, and their carers....

Calling all dogs in East Devon. Why not give your owners a treat on Sunday 27 April and ‘lead’ them to a charity event specially designed around for people and pooches?

East Devon District Council is hosting another charity ‘Dogs' Day Out’ from 10am to 4pm. Pet owners and their canine companions can enjoy a huge range of free activities in aid of The Dogs' Trust.

Free micro chipping, a fun dog show, agility displays, a tombola and free giveaways are all on offer as EDDC promotes responsible dog ownership in a fun, friendly way.

Selection criteria approved for Queen’s Drive Leisure Area

East Devon District Council’s Cabinet agreed the selection criteria that will be used when considering bids for the development of the Queen’s Drive Leisure Area, the prime nine-acre site on Exmouth’s seafront, at their meeting on 2 April.

The site is currently being marketed following outline planning approval obtained in December 2013 for the development of the site into a recreation and leisure zone.

Teaching Trust helps Jurassic Coast project get creative

The Dorset and East Devon Jurassic Coast Team has been awarded £75,000 from the Primary Science Teaching Trust.

This money will help primary schools across the region to develop resources for the new national curriculum, due to be launched in September.

The new Big Jurassic Classroom (BJC) project focuses on recruiting teachers to act as ambassadors for the Jurassic Coast and on three particular areas of work; teacher placements with scientists, teacher training days and creating resources for schools.

Everys Solicitors in Exmouth has begun a succession plan to ensure this branch of the firm is left in safe hands.

Long-serving Everys legal expert Clive Dixon has worked at the Exmouth branch as a qualified solicitor for 44 years and actually started his training with the firm’s predecessor, W Linford Brown & Sons, in 1964. A general practitioner, Mr Dixon will be reducing his hours in the near future but Everys has already put plans into action to ensure a smooth transition of his caseload.

Young artists inspired by A la Ronde

Children from the Holy Trinity Church 0-5 Playgroup in Exmouth have created a bright and colourful exhibition of artwork inspired by items from A la Ronde, the National Trust property near Exmouth.

This year the source of inspiration for the children’s work was a mosaic-topped table from the Drawing Room which was decorated by cousins Jane and Mary Parminter, on whose instructions the quirky 16 sided house was built.

Artist Irena Boobyer is holding her fourth exhibition at A la Ronde, near Exmouth, 9-22 May. Irena’s new series of intricate papercuts and silhouettes was inspired by A la Ronde’s wildflower meadow and Parminter Walk.

Irena says: "Through my work you can follow in the footsteps of A la Ronde’s spinster cousins Jane and Mary Parminter and enjoy a stroll around the meadow rich in flora and fauna, delight in the wildflowers, butterflies and birdsong, and taking in some excellent views over the Exe estuary."
