Firework displays reinforce a sense of community

Heading out into the community for a firework display is something many of us love to do, according to a survey carried out by Barratt Homes, which is building homes across Exeter.

Redrow Homes supports community land rejuvenation project

Redrow Homes is working in partnership with the local council and community in Pinhoe, Exeter to revamp a derelict patch of land into a beautiful landscaped space.

The area is located near to Redrow’s Saxon Brook development and has been empty since a popular pub was demolished.

On learning that Redrow had a development in the area, Exeter City Council reached out to the award-winning housebuilder. Redrow was immediately keen to be involved in the rejuvenation of the community’s land surrounding Saxon Brook.

Two members of the site team at Redrow’s Potters Lea development in Kingsteignton have both recently been recognised for their exceptional work towards building outstanding homes and providing top quality customer service.

Site manager Steve Damerell has won an esteemed industry accolade for his top-quality work.

Steve has received the Pride in the Job ‘Quality’ Award from the National House Building Council (NHBC). This award will be presented to him at the Pride in the Job 2018 South West lunch on Friday 21 September at the Passenger Shed in Bristol.

Barratt Homes becomes Exeter College’s Employer of the Month

A local south west house builder has been recognised by Exeter College for championing apprenticeships.

Barratt Homes was awarded the title of Employer of the Month for its work with students and for appointing the UK’s first ever marketing apprentice, Barney Munn.

In addition to the new marketing role, there are 13 apprentices working towards their NVQ levels two and three at Barratt Homes across the region. They will be covering topics including carpentry with 10 bricklaying and one each in technical and commercial.

Mortgage repossessions increase whilst all other sectors fall

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, has reported a 6.1% increase in the number of mortgage repossession cases listed at Exeter County Court in the year-ending 31st March 2018. This is in comparison to the same period in 2016/17.

Steve Barriball, Citizens Advice Exeter Chief Executive, said: “In the last year there were 560 cases listed for repossession, an overall decrease of 5.6%, or 33 cases, on the previous year. However, there was an increase in mortgage repossessions, which were up by five cases.

Cullompton Scout Group celebrates move to new home

Scouts in the Cullompton area have a new long term home thanks to the work of five star housebuilder Barratt Homes.

Apprentices from the housebuilder, which this year celebrates its 60th anniversary, have built a brand new community hub for the scouts with the Cullompton Scout Centre officially handed over to the group at a recent opening ceremony.

And the new residents were full of praise for the new facility which can accommodate all 60 members of the group and has room for them to expand in the future.

Redrow plants bumblebee orchard at Saxon Brook

Redrow Homes has planted a special fruit orchard at its stunning Saxon Brook development to provide a welcome home for bumblebees whose numbers have been declining in recent years.

The award-winning housebuilder has planted 70 trees designed to create a perfect bee habitat in time for the spring, including several apple, plum and pear species.

Around one hundred and eighty people attended a seminar last week organised by CPRE Devon to address the controversial issue of where new homes should be built in Exeter, East Devon, Teignbridge and Mid Devon.

Presentations by East Devon MP Sir Hugo Swire, and Simon Thornley and Andy Wood from the Greater Exeter Strategic Plan (GESP) gave rise to lively debate at the meeting last Friday (January 19th).

Housebuilder brings £24 million investment to local area

Five star housebuilder Barratt Developments, which has its regional headquarters in Exeter, has built 520 homes in the south west during the past year and brought around £24 million to communities where it is constructing new developments.
